A man convicted in connection with a 1992 Geary county indecent liberties with a child case is up for a public comment session and possible parole. Darryl Manco, 49, was sentenced in September of 1992, after the March 1992 incident. He has been in jail since that time at a variety of facilities, although most recently is in maximum security at Lansing. His earliest possible rlease date is December first of this year. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)   Felix Hernandez lost his fourth straight start and Will Smith struck out a career high eight to help the Kansas City Royals beat the Seattle Mariners 3-1 on Monday. The Mariners right-hander hasn’t lost four straight starts since 2008. He also left in the seventh inning with a cramp in his lower back. Smith pitched 4 1-3 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the victory, allowing just one hit, after starter Danny Duffy failed to make it through four innings. The San Francisco 49ers have signed former K-State wide receiver Chris Harper to a three-year contract. Harper was a fourth-round draft pick by the NFC West rival Seattle Seahawks, who released him Saturday and signed him to their practice squad.  Harper led the Cats with 58 receptions for 857 yards and three touchdowns a year ago.  He caught four passes for 39 yards for Seattle in the preseason, but dropped two passes including a touchdown in the preseason finale. K-State men’s basketball coach Bruce Weber finalized his coaching staff on Monday with the addition of Matt McCumber as director of student-athlete development. In his new position, McCumber will be responsible for a variety of areas, including basketball-related matters, handling special projects for the coaching staff and assisting with community service projects and the department’s Life Skills program. Diana Nyad has become the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida without the help of a shark cage. The 64-year-old Nyad stepped ashore in Key West on Monday just before 2 p.m., about 53 hours after she began her swim in Havana on Saturday.

The Flint Hills Area Transportation Agency (aTa) will host a Ribbon Cutting on Monday, September 9 at 2 p.m. at their new transit facility on the Southeast corner of Tuttle Creek Boulevard and Marlatt Avenue in Manhattan on the Riley County Public Works grounds. The Manhattan City Commission is set to discuss changes to the City Auditorium at Tuesday evening’s meeting. The issue was brought up earlier this year and at that time there were a couple of disagreements over how to puruse the renovations.
