A Manhattan chiropractor is under investigation after a recent arrest for rape. The Riley County Police Department arrested 64-year-old Clark Petersen June 29 on a warrant alleging a single count of rape. He was released from jail after posting a $50,000 bond. Online court records show the alleged incident occurred in July 2022 against a then-48-year-old victim. It’s unclear if the alleged incident is connected to Petersen’s business. A report for criminal deprivation of property was filed Tuesday in Manhattan. According to RCPD, officers filed the report around 2:44 pm in the 400 block of Fort Riley Boulevard. Officers listed a 23-year-old male as the victim after he reportedly let a known male suspect drive his 2016 red Hyundai Veloster and did not return it. The estimated total loss was not available at the time of their Wednesday release.

A 28-year-old man and 27-year-old female were listed as the victims when it was reported an unknown male suspect broke into a shed and took a Milwaukee Cordless shop vac and tool tote, a Ryobi leaf blower, and other various items. Manhattan City Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution establishing their intent to exceed the estimated 47.61 revenue neutral rate in 2024 and set a public hearing related to said topic during their Tuesday meeting. During their June 13th work session, commissioners requested the full 9.5% valuation growth for the city to not be captured and expressed interest in lowering it to 6%. Opting for the smaller rate would bring the mill levy to 50.47, a 1.68 decrease from the current 52.15. The Manhattan Parks and Recreation Department is nearing the start of a comprehensive master plan that will take a deep dive into overall planning of the department’s future. Director Aaron Stewart says a community survey is due to come before the city commission next month, with an early fall rollout likely. Stewart says once the survey is completed, Parks & Rec should have a better understanding of the community’s needs and wants, including a measure on how much the community is willing to support funding of a potential indoor waterpark.
