Governor Sam Brownback was in Manhattan today on the campus of Kansas State University to announce his three new appointees to the Kansas Board of Regents. Shane Bangerter, Ann Brandau-Murguia, and Helen Van Ettan will replace three outgoing board members, and each will serve a four year term. Brownback expressed confidence in his appointees saying “Shane, Ann, and Helen bring a great amount of experience and talent to the board and I am excited they’ve agreed to serve our great state”. It was a season of milestones for the K-State baseball team with the school’s first Big 12 title and Super Regional berth, and a school record 45 victories. The final college baseball polls were all released on Thursday, and the Cats are ranked in the top 15 of all five polls. Baseball America tabbed K-State #13 in its final top 25. The Cats were tabbed #19 in their previous highest finish in that survey back in 2009. They took different paths to the cusp of the NBA, but a pair of players who spent four years playing basketball in the Little Apple have a chance to be selected in the league’s annual draft on Thursday night. As the 2012-2013 school year came to a close at Wednesday’s Manhattan Ogden school board meeting, there were not only some heartfelt goodbyes to the members moving on to other endeavors but also budget discussions began. (AP) Kansas basketball coach Bill Self was publicly reprimanded by the NCAA and fined an undisclosed amount on Wednesday after damaging the scorer’s table during an NCAA tournament game in Kansas City. Self struck the table at the Sprint Center on March 24 during a third-round win over North Carolina. Ron Wellman, the chair of the Division I men’s basketball committee, said in a statement that “Coach Self’s actions were out of line with the committee’s expectations that championship participants act in a manner that represents the highest standards of sportsmanship.” The damage fell under NCAA guidelines…
A Country Stampede fan on his way to the annual festival didn’t quite make it Wednesday afternoon. Wamego Assistant Police Chief Paul Schliffke tells KMAN emergency crews responded to the fire at Fourth and Lincoln at about four p.m. The 1989 parked Pace Arrow motor home was a complete loss, with significant damage to the near-by building, identified as the Last Stop convenience store.
