(AP)   The Kansas City Royals took advantage of a pair of errors by the Chicago White Sox to score three times in the eighth inning Sunday and rally for a 7-6 win that avoided a three-game sweep. The Royals trailed by two when they got consecutive singles by Mike Moustakas and David Lough off ace White Sox reliever Jesse Crain (2-2) to start the eighth. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Authorities have arrested a 26-year-old mother suspected of abandoning her 2-week-old baby inside a Wichita Wal-Mart. The Wichita Eagle reports that the woman roamed around the store between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. yesterday before leaving the infant behind inside a child carrier. The woman was booked on suspicion of a child abandonment charge, along with an unrelated felony warrant. The infant was taken into police protective custody.

For many people, the upcoming fourth of July holiday means fireworks, but there is at least one place in the local area where fireworks are not welcome. The Corps of Engineers at Tuttle Creek Lake has issued a reminder that fireworks are not permitted on public property anywhere at the lake. This includes all Corps parks, all areas outside of the parks, and the lake itself. Fireworks are prohibited since they can result in wildfires. Members of the Manhattan Area Amateur Radio Society gathered under a shelter at Tuttle Creek State park this weekend to spend twenty four hours testing their equipment and making some important contacts. From noon Saturday until noon Sunday, members of the society ran their radios and other equipment off of solar power and generators, making sure that everything worked on power that did not come from the main source of power.
