WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Police in Wichita believe a man found dead near a utility pole was electrocuted while trying to steal copper. KAKE-TV reports a passer-by called 911 after finding the body Friday afternoon in southern Wichita. Police Lt. Dennis Wilson says a bicycle was leaning against a power pole. A flashlight and bolt cutters were found nearby. Investigators believe the man attempted to cut a 7,200-volt power line and was electrocuted sometime overnight. The man was thought to be in his 20s. Beginning Monday, June 10, 2013, the Linear Trail will be closed from Richards Drive and K-18 to Rosencutter Road for approximately four weeks. Pedestrians and trial users will be detoured along Richards Drive and Rosencutter Road, to the intersection of K-18 where a pedestrian crosswalk signal can be activated. This closing is part of the Western Interceptor Sewer project. Pedestrians and trail users should follow all posted detour signs and exercise caution in the project area. On Monday, June 10, weather permitting, a local roadway improvement project will begin on a two-block portion of Bluemont Avenue from Manhattan Avenue east to 11th Street. Project work includes grading and surfacing, storm sewer and traffic signal installation, and the addition of a raised median in the center of Bluemont Avenue. Work will take place during daylight hours, Monday through Friday, with some occasional Saturday work. The Bluemont Avenue improvement project will be constructed in phases to allow for traffic flow through the area. KINGMAN, Kan. (AP) His voice cracking at times, a former Kansas lawman told jurors that it was his fault his wife is dead but that he didn’t kill her. Brett Seacat returned to the witness stand Friday in his first-degree murder trial in the April 2011 killing of Vashti Seacat, 34,. The 37-year-old Kingman man also is charged with aggravated arson and two counts of child endangerment. The defense contends his wife set the fire before killing herself.
