A fire north of Los Angeles has forced nearly 3,000 people to evacuate their homes. The fire has burned about 35 square miles in the mountains and canyons of the Angeles National Forest, destroying at least six homes and damaging 15 more.

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Hector Lorenzana had two hits and three RBIs to help Oklahoma win the NCAA Blacksburg regional title with a 10-4 victory against Virginia Tech on Sunday night. The Sooners (43-19) advanced to next week’s super regional against either LSU or Louisiana-Lafayette. The season ended for Virginia Tech (40-22). A rare tornado may have touched down in Maine on Sunday, as powerful winds, thunderstorms and hail pounded Northern New England. As of early Monday, 19,000 homes and businesses were without power in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.
The sun was shining and the sky was blue. For those in attendance at the Wildflower Walk at the Konza Prairie Biological Station, this was ideal weather to view the sites. Sunday, June 2 held this year’s annual walk around a special part of the Konza. Touring the 1.2 mile trail known as Butterfly Hill, people were given a chance to see a number of different wildflowers in bloom. In a historic year for K-State athletics, K-State baseball made more history Sunday night at Tointon Family Stadium. The Wildcats are headed to their first super regional in school history after a 4-3 win over Arkansas to win the Manhattan regional. A wild top of the seventh gave K-State the lead for good at 4-3. Emergency officials set out Saturday to see how much damage a violent burst of thunderstorms and tornadoes caused as it swept across the Midwest Friday night, killing at least nine and injuring dozens.
Jared King picked a great time for his first hit of NCAA regional play. King drove in two runs with a sixth inning double to break a 1-1 tie and give K-State the lead for good in a 7-1 win over Bryant. Though construction on Poyntz Ave. caused the location to change, the 12th Annual Weenie Dog races persevered this past weekend. With a fenced off area and stripes lining the parking lot south of AJ’s Pizzeria, the races were set and the weenie dogs and their owners were ready to go.
