The memorial service originally scheduled to take place at Sunset Cemetery early this morning had to be moved to the American Legion Hall due to inclement weather. American Legion Post seventeen commander Harold Randa says the rain started just after they placed the flags at both sunrise and sunset cemeteries, something they do every memorial day, when the rain started. K-State will welcome in Arkansas, Bryant and Wichita State to the first ever NCAA baseball regional in Manhattan this weekend. The Wildcats are the number one seed in the regional, and will face fourth seeded Wichita State on Friday at 2:00 PM. The game will be televised on ESPNU. You can also hear the game on Sports Radio 1350 KMAN. The Wildcats beat the Shockers twice this year, 7-6 in Manhattan on April 9th and 4-1 in Wichita on April 16th, which was the fourth sweep of WSU since 2005. A case of shoplifting turns into much more for three Junction City teens. Just after 8:00 Monday morning, Junction City Police Officers responded to three Juveniles in custody for shoplifting at Dollar General at 924 W. 6th St. During the preliminary investigation items from Westwood School were located on the juvenile’s persons. Officers responded to Westwood School, 1600 N. Eisenhower St. and discovered extensive damage through out the school. A preliminary estimate of the damage is believed to be in excess of $250,000.00. The Big 12 Champion Kansas State Wildcats Baseball team was selected Sunday evening to host one of 16 Regionals in the upcoming NCAA Baseball Tournament. The other three teams along with game times will be announced on Monday at 11 a.m. when the selection show is held. Kansas State announced on Sunday evening that season ticket holders and Ahearn Fund Members will get the first crack at tickets to the Regional with tickets going on sale Wednesday morning at 8:30. The Kansas State Wildcats have gotten used to battling back from huge deficits in the month of May and winning. It started on May 11 in Lawrence when the Bat Cats scored nine unanswered runs and won the game after trailing arch-rival Kansas 6-0. They overcame a 4-0 Oklahoma lead in the sixth inning on May 17 to win the Big 12 Championship in the bottom of the ninth inning. Just after 11:30 p.m. Friday night, members of the Junction City Patrol Division along with EMS responded to the intersection of 14th and Jackson Streets, in reference to a subject having been shot. Upon arrival, the victim, identified as 20-year old Christopher Brehmer, was located in the driver’s seat of his vehicle, having received a single gun shot to his back. Mr. Brehmer was transported to the Geary Community Hospital and later flown by Life Star to Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, in serious condition. Riley County EMS Paramedics were at the Manhattan Town Center Mall Saturday to help spread the word about safety. Mall-goers had the opportunity to try different life saving techniques as a part of National EMS Week. Paramedic, Nathan Dixon mentioned he hopes every Manhattan individual gets CPR certified so that Manhattan can be the safest town. Dixon added, he enjoys EMS week because he feels they are the guys that are sometimes forgotten.
