WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A would-be robber wrote a note demanding money at a Wichita restaurant. But he wrote the note on his own check reorder form. Wichita police say the man entered the Spangles restaurant in east Wichita early Saturday. Police Sgt. Scott Brunow told WIBW that the man handed the note demanding money to a cashier. However, he left on foot a short time later after not getting anything. “Water, Water” was the theme of this year’s 25th Annual Garden Tour. Riley County Extension Master Gardener’s hosted the event Sunday afternoon. From 1:00-5:00 p.m., participants had the chance to view five gardens throughout Manhattan. All of the garden’s features waterfalls, ponds, and other water wonders. Master Gardeners were spread out through the five locations to provide additional information. Some of the key concepts for a “water wise” yard include: watering deeply and infrequently, irrigating in the early morning, monitoring the weather and using drip irrigation. Riley County Emergency responders assisted a worker at the West Stadium construction site, at Bill Snyder Family Stadium, Friday morning. Officials transported the man by ambulance after an accident. No details were available regarding what kind of accident took place, but the man was released from Mercy Regional Health Center. According to a Mortenson Construction spokesman, the man will be back to work on Monday. No other details are available at this time.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Police in Wichita believe a man found dead near a utility pole was electrocuted while trying to steal copper. KAKE-TV reports a passer-by called 911 after finding the body Friday afternoon in southern Wichita. Police Lt. Dennis Wilson says a bicycle was leaning against a power pole. A flashlight and bolt cutters were found nearby. Investigators believe the man attempted to cut a 7,200-volt power line and was electrocuted sometime overnight. The man was thought to be in his 20s. Beginning Monday, June 10, 2013, the Linear Trail will be closed from Richards Drive and K-18 to Rosencutter Road for approximately four weeks. Pedestrians and trial users will be detoured along Richards Drive and Rosencutter Road, to the intersection of K-18 where a pedestrian crosswalk signal can be activated. This closing is part of the Western Interceptor Sewer project. Pedestrians and trail users should follow all posted detour signs and exercise caution in the project area.
