May sales tax numbers in Manhattan are down once again, with only grocery sales showing an increase. Manhattan Finance Director Bernie Hayen reminds us the May numbers generally reflect March retail sales, with most of the major retailers including big box and Mall stores, down compared to the same period a year ago. Grocery sales, however, showed an eight percent increase in sales overall across the community. New information has been released regarding damage at a Junction City elementary school, with a fourth suspect now facing charges in connection with the case. An additional 15-year-old from Junction City also faces burglary, theft, conspiracy, and felony damage to property charges. KMAN news told you earlier this week that two 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old were taken into custody. The Kansas City Royals have named George Brett their interim hitting coach after sending Jack Maloof and Andre David down to the minors. Maloof and David were hired this season as co-hitting coaches after Kevin Seitzer was let go. The Royals are in the midst of an eight game losing streak, and the team has lost 19 of it’s last 23 games overall. Kansas City’s offense has been the main problem for the team in it’s recent slide. Like the olympic torch, the special olympics torch is passed from hand to hand as it travels around the state in various legs. FORT RILEY, Kan. – Fort Riley civilian employees began receiving notices of decision to furlough Thursday. These notices are required by federal law to inform employees they will be furloughed no sooner than 30 days from the date of the notice. A furlough work schedule accompanies the notice. IRVING, Texas (AP) The Alamo Bowl is close to getting the first choice of Big 12 teams outside the championship picture. Jayhawks coach Charlie Weis says in a statement released Wednesday night that the school is aware of the charges and gathering facts.
