LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) University of Kansas leaders are hailing the designation of the Lawrence campus as a new listing in the National Register of Historic Places. The historic district of the campus covers the period of 1863 to 1951 and includes the Watson Library, the World War II Memorial Campanile and The Hill overlooking Memorial Stadium. Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little said in a statement Monday that the listing of the campus district among the nation’s historic place would help preserve the area for future generations. K-State’s backcourt took a big hit for the next two years when Angel Rodriguez opted to transfer from the school last week. Now the Wildcats have to find a way to move on without their starting point guard and leading returning scorer for 2013-14. “The exit of Angel was a little disheartening, but it’s a part of college basketball and you’ve got to move forward,” K-State Head Coach Bruce Weber said on KMAN’s Wildcat Insider. “We’re going to miss Angel’s toughness and defense. Two local schools were on lockout for about an hour Tuesday morning. Around 11:15 Tuesday morning, Riley County police responded to the 2500 block of Candlecrest Circle, which is near Frank Bergman Elementary and Susan B. Anthony Middle School.  According to USD 383 Communications Coordinator Michele Jones the all clear came in shortly after noon. Riley County Public Information Officer, Matt Droge indicated the original call was for a subject brandishing a fire arm in the area, toward a victim.  Officers responded to the assault to investigate and notified both schools. .

The detention hearing scheduled for a Manhattan doctor linked to drug overdoses has been continued. Michael Schuster’s detention hearing is now set for May seventh with Magistrate Judge K. Gary Sebelius in Topeka Tuesday continuing the hearing to the May seventh date. The 53 year old doctor was arrested last Tuesday (April 23) on charges of unlawfully prescribing prescription drugs. Schuster had been operating Manhattan Pain and Spine, with an indictment alleging he was out of the office when a total of 542 patients received prescriptions for more than a dozen different types of medications. Schuster’s medical license has been indefinitely suspended.
