Manhattan’s Furniture Amnesty Day is set to proceed as planned, after a postponement of the initial July 25 date. The event will take place Friday, August first in City Park. The event was postponed last Friday due to anticipated flooding in the area. Furniture Amnesty Day is a free community event that gives people the opportunity to donate or pick up used furniture at no cost. Anyone can participate. By Rose Gruenbacher A Pittsburg man on Monday maintained his innocence in Riley County District Court, for a case in which he faces three counts of rape of a minor under 14 years old. Jeffery Scott Bailey, 44, appeared before judge John Bosch for his arraignment. Bailey was arrested April 16 for five counts of rape against a girl he knows. Two of the counts have since been dropped, when a judge found there was insufficient evidence to support the claims. Bailey has remained held in Riley County Jail since his arrest on a $75,000 bond. Authorities are investigating after a 17-year-old boy reported he was battered and robbed in his driveway. According to the Riley County Police Department, the alleged incident occurred just after 11 p.m. Friday in the 3600 block of Everett Drive. Police filed a report for aggravated robbery and aggravated battery, after the victim said his personal property was stolen during the attack. Police have not identified any potential suspects. A Manhattan man who was found unresponsive Sunday morning by authorities, is now facing a slew of criminal charges. The Riley County Police Department says 24-year-old Alyzae Moreno was transported to Ascension Via Christi after he was found unconscious in the 200 block of Fort Riley Blvd. Upon being released from the hospital, police arrested Moreno for possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and for driving on a suspended license. Kimberly Kilgore, 38, of Wamego, was arrested on July 25, 2025, at approximately 11:57 a.m. at the 1000 block of Seth Child Road on a Johnson County District Court warrant for failure to appear. The RCPD responded to a series of incidents across Manhattan on Saturday, July 26, including multiple thefts, domestic disturbances, and two arrests. Officers investigated several larceny cases throughout the day, including a reported theft at Dara’s Fast Lane on Claflin Road, another at Casey’s General Store on Fort Riley Boulevard, and a past vehicle-related theft at the Fairfield Inn on Colorado Street. Three people were injured in two related crashes late Friday night on K-18 eastbound, about half a mile east of the K-114 junction. The first incident occurred around 11:35 p.m. when 18-year-old Trinity Sproul of Wamego lost control of her 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer and struck a parked 2007 Pontiac G6 on the shoulder. The Pontiac then hit two pedestrians who were standing in front of the vehicle. The pedestrians—29-year-old Koltyn Moore of Manhattan and 40-year-old Rod Marti of Milwaukee, Wisconsin—were both transported to Ascension Via Christi in Manhattan with suspected serious injuries.
