After being a schoolteacher for over 25 years, starting out in a one-room schoolhouse, Bonnie wanted to be able to keep helping children after retirement.  A perfect way to do this was through Manhattan’s RSVP’s signature program, Schools of Hope, where mentors are paired up with a student to help create a positive learning environment while becoming more proficient readers. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)   The Kansas City Chiefs have been on the clock since the end of last season. The Chiefs went 2-14 to land the No. 1 choice in the NFL draft for the first time in franchise history. Update: Thursday morning–The K-18 traffic switch is now scheduled to take place Thursday afternoon, April 25 due to the strong potential of rain now forecasted for tomorrow, Friday, April 26. Older report: Eastbound and westbound K-18 from 56th Avenue to just west of K-113/Seth Child Road will be moved to the new westbound K-18 lanes and reduced to one lane in each direction for pavement reconstruction work beginning on Friday, April 26, weather permitting. After the announcement last week by the FAA of furloughs for air traffic controllers and closures of air traffic control towers across the nation, U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) held a press conference Tuesday to discuss the issue. On Tuesday night two years of work from the Wildcat Creek Watershed Working Group came to the floor of the Manhattan city commission. City staff gave an initial briefing on the management plan which will be going forward in its final adjustments before possible adoption by city and county officials in July.
