Winter Storm Q caused a number of cancellations and closures on Thursday, including the closure of Riley County offices. For this reason, a number of items from that tentative agenda carried over to Monday’s meeting the following week. The busy agenda included two bid openings-one for aerial photography project and one for the CPE elevater update project. Only one bid was submitted for the elevator modernization. Riley County officials are looking for a new health department administrator. That comes following news of current administrator Susanne Kufahl’s resignation at(Monday’s Riley County commission meeting. Kufahl adds it’s been a busy year, since she took over the administrator role from the retiring Chuck Murphy. She’s been with the department for nearly 16 years. Kufahl declined to say what she will be doing, saying only that she is pursuing some ventures that are a little more private than public. While many of us think of road conditions and car accidents during snow storms,other types of injuries during such weather. Larry Counchman, Director of Emergency and EMS Services for Mercy Regional Health Center, tells KMAN his office was busy the end of last week, with 16 to 20 such incidents. Most were of the minor nature, with falls a common theme. And Couchman reminds us of another common theme when it comes to winter-related injuries, sledding-related accidents. A Nascar crash that injured more than 30 people had a couple of eyewitnesses well-known to KMAN news. Frequently interviewed Kansas Highway Patrol Lt. Greg Harkrader and Kansas State Police Captain Don Stubbings were present at the event. Harkrader admits it was surreal, with he and Stubbings only a couple sections away from the crash Saturday. Lt. An Arkansas man is behind bars in Riley county on a variety of charges. Riley County Police told reporters on Monday that Kerry Coleman, 28 of Pine Bluff Arkansas was taken into custody late Sunday morning on one failure to appear warrant and two probation violation warrants. The original charges against Coleman were one count of sale or possession of a hallucinogen with intent to sell, one count of possession of ecstasy , one count obstructing the legal process, and one count of marijuana possession.
