The third issue from the Manhattan Ogden’s winter retreat was put on the agenda for a public hearing on Wednesday, but unlike the other topics, the issue of the early release for senior did not bring a crowd to the meeting. A Manhattan man convicted in August for 21 charges, including numerous rape charges for two female children ages 10 and 13, received his sentence on Wednesday. John Goodpasture Jr., 43, appeared in court with his defense attorney, Gene Parrish, who stated he recently came into information from witnesses that were unable to attend trial.  He requested the state not destroy any recordings of phone calls and asked that the court listen to the new recordings before proceeding with sentencing. The City of Wamego is named a leader with its  floodplain program. At Tuesday’s City Commission meeting, City Manager Merl Page introduced Kansas Department of Agriculture’s National Flood Insurance Program specialist, Steve Samuelson, whose job it is to assist cities in interpreting FEMA’s rules and regulations. He was there to present a plaque recognizing Wamego for its floodplain management program. According to Samuelson, the Community Rating System or CRS, rewards communities for excellence in floodplain management. Because of the good work done by Ken Stein and other staff in Wamego, will mean the citizens will get discounts on flood insurance.…

Addison Mae Gehrt, 10, of Westmoreland  is one of three northeast Kansas regional winners in the 2012 Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day poster contest. As a regional winner, Gehrt is being given a bicycle and a bicycle helmet donated by Safe Kids Kansas at a school assembly presentation at St. George Elementary School on Wednesday, (November 7) . A domestic incident involving a knife was reported to Riley County Police late Tuesday evening. Riley County police reported Wednesday, that a domestic aggravated battery incident tok place around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday in the south central portion of Manhattan. A 44 year old male reported he received injuries from his spouse to his neck.  Crystal Leos-Bise (24)  was arrested at her home for injuring her spouse with a knife. NEW YORK (AP) New Orleans will be the site of the new marquee bowl game between the Southeastern Conference and Big 12. The conferences made the announcement Tuesday. The game will still be called the Sugar Bowl and will be played in the Superdome. The agreement between the leagues and the bowl is for 12 years, starting after the 2014 season. The game will match the champions from the SEC and Big 12, unless those teams are selected to the national semifinals. In that case, two other highly-rated teams from the conferences will be paired up.

An Olsburg man died in a car/pedestrian accident on K-16 Tuesday evening.  Wesley Esping, 62, died while walking southbound out of his driveway onto K-16. According to the Kansas Highway patrol Esping was checking on a deer that was hit by an unrelated vehicle, when a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup struck him. The truck was driven by Rabern Vawter, 88, of Randolph who was not injured. The accident was reported at 5:44 p.m. about a half mile east of Olsburg.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Kansas revenue forecasters predict the state will collect nearly $705 million less in the next fiscal year than it will this year as income tax cuts take effect and a sales tax increase expires. The prediction issued Tuesday is the first glimpse at how the experts believe the cuts adopted in May will affect state revenue. The cuts take effect in January. The forecasters shaved $5.2 million from their earlier prediction of revenues in the fiscal year that ends next June 30, bringing it down to $6.17 billion.
