With the retirement of Public Works Director/Parks Director, Rod Meredith this year, Riley County Commissioners have began discussing what the different options are to fill this position. During Monday’s commission meeting, Human Resource Manager, Cindy Volanti listed off various scenarios the department came up with. The first two scenarios involve keeping the public works and parks departments seperate and rearranging and/or hiring staff. Multiple charges land a local man behind bars. Riley County Police told reporters Monday that Jason Dean (41), of Pennsylvania, was taken into custody just after 10:00 Sunday evening. Dean had various warrants including one for failure to appear on a charge of sale of a controlled substance, as well as one for aggrivated battery and criminal trespass . He was also charged with sixteen counts of failure to register as a drug offender. On Monday, a plea of not guilty was given in the arraignment of Daniel Parker on charges of first degree murder of 21 year old Frederick Beverly and first degree premeditated murder. A written waiver to a speedy trial was also given, which has pushed the trial date to next year as it was stated that Defense Attorney Ronald Evans would not have enough time before then for the case. Parker’s trial is set to begin April 8th at 9:00 am, with a pre-trial hearing set for March 19th.
DENVER (AP) Jon Embree has been fired as coach of the University of Colorado football team. The Buffaloes just competed the worst season in the 123-year history of the program. They finished 1-11 with their only win a 35-34 win at Washington State on Sept 23. Embree was 4-21 in two years at Colorado, where he replaced Dan Hawkins.
