Everyone is focused on the 2012 Wildcats, but K-State will will have a nice home field advantage next season.  Eight games at Bill Snyder Family Stadium highlight the Wildcats’ 2013 football schedule announced on Tuesday.  The non conference schedule features home games with North Dakota State, Louisiana and UMASS before opening the conference schedule with back-to-back road trips to Texas and Oklahoma State.  K-State will then play five of their next six games at home, starting with dates against Baylor, West Virginia and Iowa State.  After a tilt at Texas Tech, the Cats will host TCU and Oklahoma, followed by…

While K-State is spending Thanksgiving this season at the basketball mecca of Madison Square Garden, they’ll be eating turkey in paradise in 2014.  The Cats will be in the field of the Maui Invitational two years from now, with a loaded field featuring seven teams who reached the postseason last winter.  Arizona, BYU, Missouri, Pittsburgh, Purdue, and San Diego State join host Chaminade in the tournament.  The Division II Silverswords did knock off fellow Big 12 member Texas in this season’s Maui Invitational.

With a 16-6 run early in the second half, Kansas State opened its 2012-13 road schedule with a 62-47 win over Tennessee State on Tuesday night. The Wildcats, who improved to 3-0 for the seventh time in the last nine seasons, were led by sophomore guard Haley Texada, who poured in a career-high off the bench. Texada pulled the Wildcats out of a sluggish start to the second half by scoring nine straight points and finish with a career-high 17. LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) Dewayne Dedmon hit a layup and a free throw with less than two minutes left in overtime to help USC beat Texas 59-53 on Tuesday at the Maui Invitational. Sheldon McClellan banked in a putback jumper with 25.9 seconds left to put Texas within two points, but J.T. Terrell made two free throws on the next possession to seal the win for the Trojans. Several loose ends were tied up in Wamego at Tuesday’s City Commission meeting. City Manager Merl Page presented several resolutions for approval. The first has been out there for a while, regarding tangible gifts and memorials donated to the City by the public. The resolution’s purpose is to avoid misunderstandings regarding ownership and care of any donation to the City. The Commissioner’s approved a resolution allowing individual property owners to retire their special assessments. The Manhattan City Commission met on Tuesday night for what City Manager Ron Fehr called a “record breaking” quick session.  A new bond rate for some city bonds, and an ordinance which allows the rezoning of a lot near Scenic Drive were on the agenda. The City commission approved a new bond rate set around 1.6 percent.   City Manager Ron Fehr says the new rates will lead to big savings of approximately $350,000.  Fehr says Manhattan has been rated double A and double A Plus by the three rating agencies, and city staff will be looking to get better…

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A Wichita man accused in the stray-bullet killing of a sleeping 8-year-old girl has been ordered to stand trial. Twenty-four-year-old Zachary Gaston is charged with first-degree murder in the Sept. 4 killing of Kimbra Moore at a mobile home park. KFDI-FM reports a Sedgwick County judge ordered Gaston to go on trial following a preliminary hearing Tuesday. Police have said the gunfire followed an early-morning dispute in a nearby parking lot between a group of four men and a man in a stolen car.
