TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) A spokeswoman says officials at Kansas’ Wolf Creek nuclear power plant take safety seriously and have corrected a problem that led to a January shutdown. Jenny Hageman commented Friday after the Nuclear Regulatory Commission said it dropped its rating for the plant in the east-central Kansas town of Burlington. The NRC says it plans additional inspections. The Jan. 13 shutdown followed a loss of off-site power. The NRC blames an electrical short caused by improper wiring. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A Tabor College football player found beaten and unconscious in McPherson nearly a week ago remains in critical condition. Police found 26-year-old Brandon Brown, a 6-foot-3, 280-pound red-shirt defensive lineman from Sacramento, Calif., lying near a road unresponsive early Sunday. He was taken to a hospital in Wichita where he is on life-support. SALINA, Kan. (AP) Officials attended an official groundbreaking this weekend for a new training center for the Kansas National Guard. The Salina Journal reports (http://bit.ly/QaiQkm) that Brig. Gen. Eric Peck cut the ribbon at the Saturday groundbreaking for the new outdoor facility that will be built at the Kansas Regional Training Institute in Salina. Maj. Dan Matthews says Salina was chosen by the national guard because a lot of training already takes place in Salina. Col. On Tuesday the Manhattan City Commission will be taking a look at the 2011 economic development report. Manhattan City Manager Ron Fehr believes  the work session would be valuable for local residents as it details several projects that received benefits from the half cent sales tax.  The sales tax is up for vote on November’s ballot. Fehr says the 2011 report is being presented due to the ability from participating companies to give a clearer view of the reporting period, but will also include some numbers from mid 2012.
