A new federal grant for the airport,  and the upcoming metropolitan planning organization will be on the plate for Tuesday night’s Manhattan city Commission meeting. Manhattan Commissioners will be looking at funding and contracts for improving the Manhattan airport apron, and part of that process will include accepting a grant from the FAA for $1, 890, 734.00.  Commissioners are also looking deeper into the MPO process as they consider staff suggestions for two maps.  One which includes Fort Riley, and a smaller version which encloses the area immediately around the city of  Manhattan.   A new exhibit featuring the history of the local area has opened at the Flint Hills Discovery Center. Forces: The Shaping of Manhattan, Fort Riley, and Kansas State University showcases the three entities that make this area so special. Visitors to this temporary exhibit can step through time back to the mid 1800s and see how a small frontier fort and a small group of settlers made this area what it is today. The nation took notice when K-State throttled Miami 52-13 on Saturday, and the Cats have risen up the ranks in both the AP and Coaches’ poll.  K-State jumps six spots in both surveys, and the Cats are now #14 according to the coaches, and the media has voted them #15.  In the AP poll, Oklahoma is now tied with Florida State at #5 as the Sooners beat Florida A&M 69-13 on Saturday.  West Virginia remains #9 in the country after an open date.  Texas is ranked #14, just ahead of K-State, as the Longhorns shut out New Mexico 45-0.  TCU…

For the  first time in school history, the K-State volleyball is 9-0 to begin the season, and eight of their wins have been in straight sets.  The Cats though were kept off balance by Utah State on Saturday night at Ahearn Fieldhouse, but prevailed 25-22, 25-23, and 25-17.  Kaitlynn Pelger had a balanced night to lead the way with 11 kills, 12 digs, and six blocks.  Lilla Porubek added nine kills in the victory.  Utah State (5-4) was paced by 10 kills from Rachel Orr. DERBY, Kan. (AP) One person has been killed and another hurt in an all-terrain vehicle accident near the south-central Kansas town of Derby. The Wichita Eagle reports that the accident was reported at 9:10 p.m. Friday. Emergency dispatchers said one person on the four-wheeler was killed and another suffered potentially serious injuries but did not require hospitalization. The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the accident.

 A roll-over accident caused by a distracted driver caused a slight delay on Fort Riley Blvd and an injury. As KMAN news previously announced on Saturday, at approximately 4:30 p.m., a roll-over accident occured on Fort Riley Blvd and Scenic Drive, near Stagg Hill. Hannah Byun, an 18 year old from Junction City, was driving her 2006 Pontiac G6 Eastbound on Fort Riley Blvd. She was attempting to change the song on her iphone when she swerved to miss a traffic cone.
