  A Manhattan man reports that he was the victim of check fraud and is out a significant amount of money. Riley County police reported to KMAN on Monday that they received a report that  Robert Newsome (84) of 3800 block of Kates Drive was the victim of a check fraud between 2010 and 2011.  Riley county police released more information today regarding the home invasion that took place late Friday night. Lieutenant Josh Kyle tells KMAN that the victim in this case has been identified and his medical status has been released as well. Chase Cargill (20) of 1400 Chase place was transported to Mercy Regional Health Center by Riley County EMS with a gunshot wound to the upper torso. He was stabilized at Mercy, and then transported to Via Christi hospital in Wichita where he is listed in stable condition. (AP)   Members of the Kansas City Chiefs angrily spoke out Sunday against thousands of fans who cheered when quarterback Matt Cassel left a 9-6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens with a head injury.  Cassel has been the focus of frustrated fans for the past couple years, many of them booing him when he appeared during a celebrity softball game this summer.  The angst reached a tipping point when Cassel, who committed four turnovers against Baltimore, was hammered by the Ravens’ Haloti Ngata while completing a pass in the fourth quarter.  Cassel remained on his back for…

Haley Eckerman hammered out 19 kills, and Bailey Webster added 11 as #9 Texas beat #14 K-State 25-17, 30-28, 25-15 on Saturday night at Ahearn Fieldhouse.  The middle blocker combination of Kaitlynn Pelger with 15 kills, and Alex Muff with 10 kills, paced the Wildcats. Members of the First United Methodist Church of Manhattan, joined by other volunteers, spread out into Manhattan and the surrounding communities on Sunday with the goal of working to help change the world, if just a little bit.
