TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Topeka police say two suspects are in custody after shots were fired during fights that involved up to 15 people. The fight Sunday night left two people with gunshot wounds, although the injuries were not considered life-threatening. Police Lt. Ron Gish said in a news release that officers received reports of a large group of people fighting in southeast Topeka, with some of the people involved armed with handguns. Gish says a 30-year-old female and 15-year-old boy were taken to hospitals with gunshot wounds. After the shooters’ car was found, police took four people into custody. Police…

MCPHERSON, Kan. (AP) A 66-year-old former central Kansas judge has died less than a month after he resigned his position so he could focus on his health. Carl B. Anderson died Thursday and will have a memorial service Tuesday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Lindsborg. The Hutchinson News reports Anderson was a double-amputee who has been a diabetic since he was 2. He said before his Jan. 12 retirement that he hoped to get stronger so he could wear prostheses and walk, instead of relying on an electric wheelchair. Over the weekend, the Manhattan Ogden Public Schools Foundation and the Beach Museum of Art teamed up to hold the fifth annual Early Expressions Art Expo. Lining the walls of the art gallery and the extra stands held the almost 130 pieces of art work chosen by the judges.  This was only a small portion of the almost two thousand pieces that were originally submitted. The Shawnee Heights girls rallied from a 12 point second half deficit to take a 54-52 win from Manhattan High on Friday night. The Thunderbirds got 17 second half points from Danielle Poblarp including the game winning shot with 10 seconds left. (AP) A new report says Kansas would face about $600 million in additional costs over the next 10 years if it opted to expand Medicaid following the federal government’s overhaul of health care. Republican Gov. Sam Brownback’s administration on Friday released a summary of a report prepared for the state by an Illinois-based consulting firm. The analysis looked at the potential costs in expanding Medicaid to provide health care coverage for additional needy residents.
