A Manhattan man has been found guilty of all 21 counts against him, including rape, aggravated indecent liberties, and one case of aggravated criminal sodomy, involving two minor victims in Riley County. The Riley county jury in the case came back with the guilty verdict for John Goodpasture, 43,  late Friday morning, with the trial starting Monday of this week. Riley County Police reported at the time of Goodpasture’s arrest last summer that a 10-year-old girl who knew Goodpasture was involved, but apparently another victim was added in the case. Goodpasture was arrested in mid June of 2011.

A driver and passenger are were taken to the Riley County jail on a number of charges Thursday evening. Christean Ross, 24, of the 3000 block of Tuttle Creek Boulevard, and Alyssa Hedman, 20 of the 1900 block of Strong Avenue, were both arrested Thursday shortly before 10 p.m. A Riley County Police officer originally made a traffic stop at the 300 block of Colorado and there were reportedly issues with identification. GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP)  Former Riley County and K-State product Jordy Nelson caught only one pass on Thursday night for the Green Bay Packers, but he found the end zone on a 20-yard strike from Aaron Rodgers.  The Nelson-Rodgers’ connection was on the Packers’ first drive, but the Cleveland Browns took it from there in a 35-10 rout at Lambeau Field. Former Oklahoma State standout and rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden showed improvement in his second preseason game.  He’s already been chosen the Browns’ starter.  Weeden played the first half, and was 12 of 20 passing for 118 yards.

Former K-State wide receiver LaMark Brown has bulked up and is now trying to make the Atlanta Falcons as a tight end.  Brown, who was recruited by Ron Prince, played for the Cats for three years before finishing his career at Minnesota State-Mankato.  Brown caught four passes for 47 yards and a late touchdown for the Falcons in Thursday night’s 24-19 preseason loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Dan Straily earned his first major league victory as Coco Crisp and Yoenis Cespedes homered to lead the Oakland Athletics to a 3-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night.  Straily (1-0), a 24th-round draft pick in 2009, held the Royals to three singles over 6 1/3 innings in his third major league start.  Straily, who walked two and struck out two, pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the second inning.  The Royals loaded the bases on a single by Salvador Perez and walks to Mike Moustakas and Eric Hosmer.  Chris Getz grounded…

Two items encompassed the Joint City/County/County Meeting as Riley County, the City of Manhattan and Pottawatomie County sat down to discuss the half-cent sales tax presentation by Riley County and also to talk about the Marlatt / Junietta extension update. The sales tax issue is still in the works, but Riley County is already making work of creating brochures and a powerpoint presentation that way they can go out and educate the public. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback is facing criticism over his budget director’s order to state agencies to draft proposals for 10 percent cuts in spending for the next budget year. House Minority Leader Paul Davis, a Lawrence Democrat, said Thursday the directives represent failed priorities. They come after the Republican governor signed income tax cuts into law. Brownback spokeswoman Sherriene Jones-Sontag says the governor is protecting core services and public schools. She said the 10 percent cut won’t apply to aid to public schools.
