Evergy customers in Kansas could see an increase in their monthly bill if a request by the energy company gets approved. Spokesperson Gina Penzig says the company filed a request with the Kansas Corporation Commission this week as it seeks to recover investments made to improve service to customers, including a more reliable and resilient power grid and updated customer service systems. Evergy is requesting a net revenue increase of $204 million, equating to a 9.77% overall rate increase for its Central Kansas service area. Grow Green Match Day took place this past Friday and the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation had a record-breaking day of fundraising with donations totaling over 1.4 million dollars. GMCF President and CEO Vern Henricks says it was exciting to see the large number of nonprofits that ended the day with a significant amount of funds. Riley County Commissioners approved a proposal Monday to construct new turn lanes on Marlatt Avenue to help detour traffic when the Kansas Department of Transportation begins construction on two new roundabouts in 2025. Those projects will be constructed where Tuttle Creek Blvd. intersects Seth Child and Hwy 13. Riley County Public Works Director John Ellerman spoke to commissioners about the proposal at Monday’s meeting. The design firm estimates reconstruction plans would cost $658,000, which includes fees for the company’s work. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly on Monday vetoed a bill that would have cut taxes in Kansas by nearly $1.4 billion over the next three years, objecting to a proposal included by conservative Republicans to impose a single-rate “flat” income tax for individuals.
