The Manhattan city commission on Tuesday reached a consensus maximum 2025 budget of $229.6 million and mill levy increase of 4 mills. Tuesday’s meeting set a cap on spending, and commissioners said the exact figures could lower at the september 3rd meeting. Overall, the commissioners had differing philosophical approaches to balancing the budget, with some favoring a more aggressive approach to increasing revenue through higher mill levies, while others wanted to focus more on reducing expenditures. City staff presented scenarios with both a 3.2 and 4 mill levy increase, and Commissioner John Matta said both are too high for Manhattan.…
Kansas State redshirt freshman offensive lineman Camden Beebe announced his medical retirement from football Monday evening on social media. A former Manhattan High football star has elevated himself to the top of the Kansas State depth chart heading into the 2024 season. A man was arrested following an injury crash early Sunday in Manhattan, authorities said. The crash was reported at 1:18 a.m. Sunday in the 300 block of N. 9th Street, just north of downtown Manhattan. According to the Riley County Police Department, a 21-year-old man was listed as the victim in the incident when it was reported that a suspect lost control of his vehicle, which collided with three parked vehicles. Devin Phelps, 21, of Manhattan, was arrested around 2:25 a.m. Sunday in the 1100 block of Fremont Street in connection with the incident. Phelps was booked into the Riley…
