TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Emergency crews have rescued a man who became trapped inside a concrete mixer at a Topeka business. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports the worker was cleaning a stationary concrete mixer shortly before noon Saturday when he slipped and fell into it. Emergency responders were able to get him out of the mixer within half an hour. Fire Department investigator Alan Stahl says the only opening on the mixer is 24 inches wide and about 20 feet above the ground. The unidentified worker sustained what officials characterized as non-life-threatening injuries.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Wichita police say an officer interrupted a traffic stop conducted by a man impersonating a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper. KWCH-TV reports the officer saw what he thought was a routine traffic stop just after 1 a.m. Saturday at Interstate 135 and Harry and pulled up behind what looked like a Highway Patrol car. A man had pulled over a female driver and was at her car when the officer pulled up. Police say the impostor ran to his car, turned on a siren and took off at a high rate of speed. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) The Kansas secretary of state’s office says a state House candidate may now run as an independent after a lost filing form kept him off the ballot as a Democrat. The office confirmed Friday that Larry Meeker, of Lake Quivira, gathered enough signatures from registered voters in the 17th House District to be listed on the November general election ballot. Meeker was the only Democrat seeking to enter the race in the Kansas City area district. Democrats contend the secretary of state’s office lost Meeker’s original filing form after it was delivered to Topeka on the deadline.…
A professor from the Kansas State University college of business says he’s looking for justice. K-State Professor Tom Wright says it all started in 2009 with teacher evaluations from his students for an upper level business management class. In January 2010 Wright noticed some possible tampering with the evaluations, and launched an investigation in conjuction with the director of the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning Vicki Clegg. The investigation uncovered evidence of tampering which changed favorable marks to lower evalutions. A 22 year old woman was arrested this past weekend by Kansas State Police on an aggravated battery charge, following an incident at Jardine Apartment complex, Building Q, early Saturday morning. Kansas State Police Captain Don Stubbings indicates Liu was taken into custody shortly before 3:30 in the morning in connection with a domestic disturbance. A 26 year old male victim was taken to Mercy Regional Health Center for treatment of what was described as a “severe laceration to his arm.” Officers rendered first aid to the student until EMS arrived. A couple of Riley county police arrests of note were reported this past weekend. Anthony Leon Williams Jr.. 24, of Junction City was taken into custody Friday evening on two failure to appear charges, with total bond set at 85-thousand dollars. RCPD Captain Kurt Moldrup reports Williams warrants were from Riley county district court on June 25th and 26th, with original chrages involving drug-related violations. And Joshua Moritz, 21, of Manhattan faces a failure to appear warrant out of Leavenworth county and is confined on no bond. NASA Scientists are giving the Curiousity Mars Rover’s landing two thumbs up. Scientists displayed the Rover’s first two photos, saying it appears to have landed in a flat area.
