March Madness is upon us and Kansas State is hosting two games during the first weekend of play in the women’s basketball tournament. With that comes a unique opportunity for Manhattan to see a boost economically due to the influx of individuals from opposing teams traveling in to the Little Apple. One person is hospitalized, following a three vehicle crash about 15 miles north of Clay Center Thursday. The Kansas Highway Patrol says a Clay Center man was northbound on K-15, shortly after 4:30 p.m., when his SUV crossed the center line and struck an oncoming Dodge Caravan. The SUV then was struck by an oncoming semi. The driver of the SUV, 64-year-old David Dean was transported to Clay County Medical Center, with a suspected serious injury. The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the report of a stolen bicycle from Manhattan last weekend. Authorities say the bike was reported stolen March 17 from the 4600 block of Sunflower Slope Drive. The bike is a Trek Roscoe 24 inch bicycle valued at approximately $569. The National Weather Service will host a free Storm Spotter class next week in Manhattan. The class is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday March 28 at Pottorf Hall, located within CiCo Park, and will last around 90 minutes. The programs are hosted annually by meteorologists and emergency managers throughout the region. They provide education on thunderstorm development and structure, safety, and how to report severe weather information. Amy Roth, 38, of Manhattan, was arrested while in the 1000 block of South Seth Child Road on March 20, 2024, around 4:30 PM. Roth was arrested on a Riley County District Court warrant for making false information. Roth was issued a total bond of $5,000 and was confined at the time of this report. Manhattan is rolling out the red carpet for visiting teams in town for the women’s March Madness tournament this weekend. Kansas State is the No. 4 seed in the Albany 2 region and will host Portland in the first of a doubleheader at Bramlage Coliseum. Officers filed a report of criminal damage to property in the 500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Manhattan at approximately 8:00 PM on March 19, 2024.  Officers listed a 21-year-old female as the victim when it was reported that a known subject damaged the passenger door and driver’s mirror of her vehicle. Kansas State University President Richard Linton spoke to the Manhattan City Commission Tuesday. Linton spoke to commissioners about combating student enrollment, which declined almost 25% between 2014 and 2022. “A lot of work is being done to be able to stimulate research innovation, I think a great example is the partnership that we might envision with NBAF which was opened up this past spring.
