(Kansas State Athletics) – Senior Markquis Nowell was among 15 players nationally selected to The Sporting News’ Midseason All-American Team, as recently announced by the organization. Complete Team Nowell was named to the Second Team, along with North Carolina’s Armando Bacot, Xavier’s Souley Boum, UCLA’s Jaime Jaquez and TCU’s Mike Miles, Jr. The First Team consisted of Purdue’s Zach Edey, Alabama’s Brandon Miller, Gonzaga’s Drew Timme, Arizona’s Azuolas Tubelis and Kansas’ Jalen Wilson. The Third Team included Memphis’ Kendric Davis, UConn’s Adama Sanogo, Penn State’s Jalen Pickett, N.C. State’s Terquavion Smith and Iowa’s Kris Murray. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — The only survivor of a Kansas house fire that killed a woman and two young girls has been arrested on suspicion of setting the blaze. Topeka police arrested Kyle J. Tyler, 32, of Holton, on Saturday, not long after he was released from a hospital once police questioned him. He remained jailed Sunday on suspicion of three counts of first-degree murder committed in the commission of another felony, arson and several other charges. RCPD reported two notable thefts occurring Thursday in Manhattan. A man reported to police roughly 12 to 15 thousand dollars worth of ammunition was stolen during a recent move from Georgia to Manhattan, alleging the moving company was responsible. JCPenney also reported a man stole a 10k white gold carat diamond ring from its store Thursday, valued at $6,250. A Manhattan was arrested early Friday morning after a report of shots fired in the area of Brook Lane. According to the Riley County Police Department, officers were called out just after 3 a.m. A man and a woman who live in the home reported another man had tried to forcibly enter the home. The man, identified as 48-year-old Bradley Smith, then allegedly fire multiple rounds from a pistol into several unoccupied cars in the area. No injuries were reported. Charges and bond were still pending at the time of Friday’s activity report.
As Kansas State University continues to look forward, the school hosted a discussion Friday with West Virginia University President Gordon Gee surrounding the past, present, and future of higher education. Gee started his career as a university president at West Virginia from 1981 to 1985. After serving at three other universities, Gee returned to WVU in 2013 to reclaim the role.
