Kansas State University’s Chief Government Relations Officer Sue Peterson is retiring next month. Peterson, who also serves as assistant to the President Richard Linton, will retire after nearly 34 years of service on April 7. Coming to K-State in 1989, Peterson has had direct responsibility for all university liaison activities with the state legislature and federal government. Officers filed a report for aggravated kidnapping, domestic battery, criminal deprivation of property, aggravated intimidation of a victim, and criminal damage to property in Manhattan on March 28, 2023, around 11:00 a.m. A 35-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man known to each other were listed as both the victims and the suspects when it was reported the man wouldn’t let the woman leave his home for approximately 8 to 9 hours. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Kansas is moving to increase its legal age for buying cigarettes, electronic cigarettes and other tobacco products to 21 from 18 after the federal government and most other states already have done it. The state Senate approved a bill to raise the age Tuesday on a 28-11 vote, sending it Gov. Laura Kelly. The House had approved it earlier this month on a 68-53 vote. Kelly has not said whether she will sign the bill, but officials with the state Department of Revenue and the Department for Aging and Disability Services supported the measure. A 16-year-old suspect was arrested Monday following an incident at the Manhattan Sonic on Anderson Ave. According to the Riley County Police Department, three women were in the Sonic parking lot around 7:30 p.m. when Cedric Swinson allegedly pointed a gun at them. When officers arrived, Swinson ran but was followed by officers across Westport Place into the Walgreens parking lot then across Garden Way. He was eventually apprehended in the Evergreen Apartments parking lot. Swinson was charged three counts of aggravated assault and one count of interference. He was processed through juvenile intake and released to a guardian.
