The Greater Manhattan Community Foundation celebrated 25 years of serving the community on Monday night’s award banquet. There were 25 total award winners for the night, a nod to the 25th anniversary of GMCF. C. Clyde Jones was one of five “Influence Award Winners,” for his role in the creation of the Grow Green Match Day organization. Jacob Robb, 26, of Manhattan, was arrested while in the 1000 block of South Seth Child Road on March 18, 2024, around 4:35 PM. Robb was arrested on a Riley County District Court warrant for probation violation. The original charges were for domestic battery x2. Robb was issued a total bond of $10,000 and was not confined at the time of this report. Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers. Spring is upon us and Tuttle Creek Lake is preparing for the season with recreation opportunities on some of the US Army Corps of Engineers property. Tuttle Creek Cove and Stockdale will be opening April 15 to the general public. “Tuttle Cove is open through October, Stockdale we shut down at the end of September, but they’ve been open for reservations for months now,” said Caleb Snider, Park Manager. Information from the Manhattan Mercury Phil Howe, a banker, oil executive and philanthropist, has died. He was 92. Howe opened Kansas State Bank in 1969, serving as president and CEO. He later became president of Griffith Oil Company, then founder and president of Master Medical Company. He also founded Baystone Financial Group. A local convenience store chain is switching hands after being acquired by another company based out of Nebraska. Lincoln-based U-Stop Convenience Shops recently completed the acquisition of 11 company-operated stores from Manhattan-based Shop Quik Convenience Stores, according to CStoreDecisions.com. Owners Greg and Pat Junghans have operated Shop Quik since 1981, eventually building their operation to 20 liquor and convenience stores, before consolidating to 11 stores, located in Manhattan, Ogden and Junction City.
