Riley County Police are searching for a suspect following a hit-and-run overnight that seriously injured a male pedestrian. Officers responded after 2:00 am in the 1100 block of Fremont finding a 41-year-old male following a hit-and-run crash. The victim was transported to Via Christi with serious injuries. His identity is unknown at this time. Officers are asking anyone with information on the suspect or the vehicle to either contact Crime Stoppers or toll-free at 1-800-TIPS. This story is being monitored and we will continue to update as more details emerge.

The KSHSAA executive board has finalized plans for this year’s State Football Championships, setting up three locations for games on Friday and Saturday the final weekend in November. Emporia State will host the 4, 5 and 6A games, Hutchinson Community College will host the 3, 2 and 1A contests. Kiowa County in Greensburg will host the eight-man and six-man games. Also, this week, the board voted to begin planning to shift the state basketball tournaments to four sites in March of 2026. There will remain seven classifications of schools, however. The City of Manhattan will be closing Manhattan Avenue next week from the Anderson/Bluemont intersection to Old Claflin Road. As a result, K-State says the A5 parking lot between the Campus Creek Complex and Justin Hall will be closed during the duration of the road closure between Monday and Friday, June 21 for repairs. ADA temporary parking stalls will be moved to new parallel stalls along Bayberry Lane for those needing to park near either building. K-State says during construction lots A2, A6 and A17 will remain open.

A Manhattan man is in custody after an apparent attempted child abduction The Riley County Police Department says officers responded Wednesday afternoon to So Long Saloon in Aggieville. Officers say the suspect, 43-year-old Jonathan Valentine is charged with attempted aggravated kidnapping after witnesses reported him agressively claiming a child did not belong to the child’s guardian. Police say Valentine attempted to forcibly take the 7-month-old, causing a minor injury to the child. Officers quickly detained him and he remains jailed on a $50,000 bond. Police are asking anyone with information to contact RCPD or Crime Stoppers.
