A Manhattan woman was arrested Thursday evening for attempting to strangle a female corrections officer. Tiffany Ryals was jailed on charges of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer (LEO), battery on a LEO, and criminal destruction of property. Officers at the Riley County jail listed a 37 year old female RCPD corrections officer as the victim. Ryals remains confined in the Riley County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

Officers filed a report of theft and criminal use of financial card in the 2800 block of Allison Ave. in Manhattan on March 7, 2024, at approximately 12:17 PM.  Officers listed a 72-year-old female as the victim when it was reported that her credit card was stolen and then used without her permission at several businesses in town. The estimated total loss associated with this case is $4,668.26. Riley County emergency coordinator Laurie Harrison says the recent state-wide tornado drill went off without a hitch. Harrison says being prepared is the key to staying safe during severe weather. She also says to check local radio when sirens are going off. The city of Manhattan has 25 outdoor emergency sirens, and the rest of Riley County has 11. Severe weather preparedness week continues through Friday.
