CHICAGO (AP) The Kansas City Royals have reinstated right-handed reliever Greg Holland from the 15-day disabled list. The team also optioned right-hander Nate Adcock to Triple-A Omaha on Saturday. Holland is 0-2 with an 11.37 ERA in seven appearances. He last pitched on April 20 when he gave up three runs on three hits and two walks without recording an out. Authorities in Geary County are investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place early Sunday morning. At about 2 a.m. Geary County Sheriff’s Department deputies were assisting officers from the Junction City Police Department with monitoring the parking lot at Club Eve located at 713 South Washington Street in Junction City at closing time. A disturbance then broke out and one subject fled behind the building and produced a firearm. The subject was shot one time and collapsed. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) A boy has been killed in a hunting accident in Pottawatomie County, and investigators say there are no signs of foul play. Sheriff Greg Riat says the accident was reported around 7:15 a.m. Saturday in the northeast part of the county. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports the boy was taken from the scene to a local hospital, where he died from a gunshot wound. The victim’s identity and age weren’t being released Saturday. Riat says more details about the accident will be released at a later date.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) An elderly Topeka man has died after his riding lawnmower slid down an embankment, overturned in a pond and pinned him beneath it. WIBW (identified the man as 84-year-old Wilbur Johnson, who was a caretaker of the property he was mowing when the accident happened. Fire crews used a wench to free the man, who was already dead. The Shawnee County Sheriff’s office says emergency crews were called to the scene just before 6:30 p.m. Friday. Area homeowners found Johnson after seeing him mowing along the edge of the pond earlier in the day.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Kansas legislators who are drafting the final version of a $14.1 billion state budget are narrowing their discussions to their biggest differences. House and Senate negotiators met for about two hours Saturday to work on the spending plan for state government for the fiscal year that begins July 1. There were dozens of differences between the two chambers on items in the budget. The negotiators stuck to minor issues during Saturday’s talks, such as the amount the Department on Aging should reimburse providers of services to the elderly for their payroll expenses. Sam Brownback. The tensions and mistrust among the GOP, which controls both chambers of the Legislature, has stood as an impediment to completing work on the state budget, school finance, pension revisions and drawing new political boundaries.
