A new facility for military affiliated folks is available on the Kansas State campus. The Veteran Center located in the Kansas State Union hosts a number of resources to help that demographic. The Veteran Center was created by K-State’s Nontraditional Student and Veteran Services department, and Director Suzanne Lueker says the center has a number of computer stations, tables, and even a Skype station for those with family deployed overseas. The Clay County sheriff’s office is reporting two drug-related arrests Thursday. Taken into custody were Randy Sutton, 34, and Danny Gingles, 29, both of Clay Center. Sutton’s bond was set at $25,000 and charges include distribution of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of school property and possession charges involving meth, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Gingles bond is $1500 and charges include possession of meth, paraphernalia, and a warrant out of Wabaunsee county for faliure to appear. A 34-year-old Manhattan man faces several drug-related charges following his arrest late Thursday night. Tyrice Johnson was taken into custody during a traffic stop in the 600 block of Yuma. The stop was part of an ongoing investigation by Riley County Police into drug activity. Johnson was charged with a total of six counts, including possession of marijuana and ecstasy,both with intent to distribute, and possession of hydrocodone. Johnson’s bond was set at $15,000.

COLBY, Kan. (AP) Authorities are trying to identify a man who was arrested after leading officers on a 72-mile chase through northwestern Kansas. The Colby Free Press reports the chase started Thursday morning after a state trooper tried to stop the man on Interstate 70 about 25 miles west of Colby. The driver dodged traffic spikes as he led officers on several highways between Colby and Oakley at speeds that reached 130 mph. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Two candidates separated by eight votes in a Republican primary for a Kansas House seat aren’t sure they’ll ask for a recount after the results become official. Incumbent Carl Dean Holmes and challenger Reid Petty, both from Liberal, said Thursday they’re uncertain about a recount because most votes in Seward County are cast using an electronic touch-screen system. They said they expect the count of votes recorded electronically to be accurate and don’t think it would change in a recount. FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (AP) A fourth bust has been added to the Buffalo Soldier monument at Fort Leavenworth. The unveiling of the bust came during a celebration Wednesday of the 20th anniversary of the original dedication of the monument, which honors the first all-black peacetime unit in the U.S. Army. The bust added Wednesday depicts the 10th Cavalry’s longtime commander, Brig. Gen. Benjamin Grierson. Although Grierson was white, he was an advocate for his black soldiers throughout his 22 years commanding the 10th Cavalry.
