Armon Bosse Jr., of Onaga, has announced his running for the district 5 seat on the Pottawatomie County commission. Bosse says his previous 7 years on the planning and zoning board has given him the institutional knowledge required for the county commissioner position. The Flint Hills Regional Council and the Flint Hills Metropolitan Planning Organization are partnering to apply for the 2024 Active Transportation Infrastructure Investment Program, a grant from the Federal Highway Administration and the U.S. Department of Transportation. The grant will cover two different projects. The first is the planning and design to connect Manhattan’s trail network on Casement Road, Marlatt Avenue, and US Highway 24 up to Tuttle Creek State Park, a two-mile stretch.…
Hans Tessmann announced he is running for the newly created district 4 seat on the Pott. County commission. District #4 includes St. George and the surrounding township. Tessman said he has come around to the idea of the commission expansion after initially voting against it… He also added that his main priority is to help give his district the proper representation in the county. Tessmann said he will look to bring projects to the district, but only if businesses pay their own share… The primary takes place August 6th.
Manhattan hosted the 2nd annual Dock Dogs competition this weekend at Blue Earth Plaza, which featured dogs from all over the country. Kitty Pursley is the local organizer and explained her reasoning for wanting to start this event last year… Activities were slightly delayed by weather on Saturday, but Pursley says it didn’t effect participation for the event. She added event has now grown big enough for other competitors to travel significant distances to the little apple… The three main components of dock diving include big air, extreme vertical, and speed retrieve competitions.

The Little Apple celebrated its 35th annual Juneteenth holiday this long weekend, which was highlighted by a unity walk and performance by Grammy and Academy-award winning singer Regina Belle. Jurdene Coleman is the chair of the Manhattan Juneteenth planning committee, and she said this year’s walk had one of the highest turnouts she can remember… The walk started at Long’s park and participants marched down Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Yuma St, and finished at the Douglass Center.
