Hundreds of people gathered outside the Flint Hills Discovery Center to view the solar eclipse Monday afternoon. Peak viewing occurred at 1:51 p.m. where 85% obscurity was observed. Amateur astronomer Steve Johannes partnered with the Discovery Center to help citizens view the historic event. Curator of Education Sally Dreher says a grant from NASA helped the Discovery Center prepare. The Discovery Center hosted an event beforehand, and glasses were donated by the Manhattan Public Library and other local organizations.
