Riley County will receive two grants from the Kansas Department of Transportation to help with road and bridge improvements over the next few years. The first grant will be dedicated to replacing a bridge located at 40th Avenue, which runs over McDowell Creek. Assistant county engineer Gary Rosewicz said that he expects the project to go to bid in 2013. The value of the first grant is $480,000, with the county putting up the remaining $160,000 to completely fund the project. The second grant will be used to replace guardrails on N. Otter Creek Road. After a stellar senior season, Manhattan High’s Deante Burton has verbally committed to continue his football career at K-State. The 6′-2″ 200 pound Burton played both wide receiver and cornerback for the Indians, who finished 10-1 for a third straight season, including a trip to the 6A state playoffs. He was a two-year starter and had 20 receptions this season for 327 yards and five touchdowns. Burton also picked off a pair of passes anchoring the Indians’ secondary. A joyride Friday ended with an Ogden woman’s truck in the public bathrooms near Saddlehorn Trail. RCPD Captain Richard Fink tells KMAN the 2003 Ford F-150 belonging to Amber Clark, 23, was taken from her residence on 7th Street in Ogden sometime between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday evening. The truck was later discovered at the parking lot near Saddlehorn Trail, where Fink says the gas pedal had been wedged down, causing the un-manned vehicle to run into the public bathrooms. The man convicted of setting fire to two warehouses at Griffith Lumber in Manhattan over two years ago will spend the next three years in federal prison. William Willox, 23, of Manhattan was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to one count of arson in the April 2009 fire. Prosecutors say Willox, then an employee of the lumber company, set a magazine on fire near some insulation and walked away. Within 10 minutes, the warehouse was engulfed in flames. The fire, driven by winds up to 40 mph, quickly spread to a second warehouse. Willox will also have to pay over…

Riley County Police were on the scene of a robbery at the Walgreens location at 325 Bluemont Monday morning. RCPD Lt. Richard Fink says few details are known at this point, including the method the suspect robbed the store or even what was taken, though he did say no weapon was displayed by the suspect. Fink says the suspect is a white male in his late 20s, standing around 6′ and weighing approximately 190 pounds. OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma State University officials will examine their travel policy in the wake of a plane crash that killed women’s basketball coach Kurt Budke and three others in Arkansas. OSU spokesman Gary Shutt said Sunday the school is still reeling from the Thursday deaths of Budke, assistant coach Miranda Serna, and pilot Olin Branstetter and his wife, Paula.
