A Craigslist listing led to the arrest of a Manhattan man on the charges of felony possession of stolen property Monday evening. Paul Pierce, 20,  was searching Craigslist when he stumbled upon a listing for his own Honda CR-125 motorcycle that had been reported stolen on the 20th of August. Pierce made arrangements to buy the motorcycle, and then called Riley County police to go with him on the arranged pick up. RCPD arrested Jason Oder of Manhattan on felony possession, and theft of property. Oder is being held with a $2,000 bond.

Wamego has amended its 2011 budget. At Tuesday’s City Commission meeting, City Manager Merl Page recommended the governing body amend the 2011 budget in three different areas. He asked for an increase of $100,000 in the General Fund to reflect the budget authority to address the Burn Site issue, and the asphalt project undertaken that was outside the scope of the existing road budget. An increase of $300,000 in the Electric budget in response to the cost of wholesale power rate increases. Page said this increase gives the City budget authority transfer flexibility. Manhattan is a magnet for animal and agriculture research as of late, and last night’s Manhattan City Commission meeting furthered that aim slightly with an economic development request. India-based Prathista  International Incorporated came forward with the request, which would use the armory building near the Manhattan Regional Airport for research and development on fermentation-based fertilizers and feed additives. The Commission moved the item forward by a unanimous vote, and will consider it further on December 20th. A four overtime win over Texas A&M isn’t going un-noticed for K-State. The Cats have two big 12 players of the week on both offense and special teams. Collin Klein is the big 12 offensive player of the week. Klein accounted for six total scores (the most in the Big 12 this season), including a school-record-tying five on the ground. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)   Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel could miss the remainder of the season after sustaining what coach Todd Haley is calling a “significant” injury to his throwing hand.  Cassel hurt his right hand near the end of the Chiefs’ 17-10 loss to Denver on Sunday.  The injury appeared to occur when Cassel was sacked by Elvis Dumervil and Von Miller, though Haley wasn’t sure if it was the hit or the way Cassel landed on the turf that caused it.  Haley refused to say whether the team would put the former Pro Bowl quarterback on injured reserve. …

30 wins and a return trip to the state tournament were the accomplishments for the Manhattan High volleyball this season.  The Kansas Volleyball Association placed three Indians on its all-state teams, released today (Monday).  Senior outside hitter MJ Massanet, the 2010 6A player of the year, received first team honors.  Massanet will play her college volleyball at Nebraska-Kearney.  MHS senior setter Sarah Tatarko made the second team, and senior opposite Alexia Evans got honorable mention.
