Construction is expected to get underway on Pillsbury Crossing Road starting Tuesday morning. The road will be shut down as workers install a new culvert. Riley County assistant public works director Rod Meredith says the road will be closed about a quarter-mile west of Pillsbury Cross Lane. COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) University of Missouri Chancellor Brady Deaton has decided to remain in Columbia rather than take an overseas trip as he decides whether the school should leave the Big 12 Conference. Deaton was scheduled to leave Tuesday for a 9-day international conference in India. Instead, school spokeswoman Mary Jo Banken said Monday that the chancellor won’t go so he can deal with other duties in his office that are more important. K-State couldn’t quite rally against Baylor on Saturday night, as the Bears prevailed in five sets in Waco. Baylor took the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-22, before the Cats evened the match with wins of 25-18 in set three and 25-14 in the fourth. Two men are charged with murdering a Junction City woman to keep her from telling police about a drug trafficking operation. The indictment was unsealed today in U.S. District Court in Topeka. Grissom joined Junction City Police Chief Tim Brown and Geary County Attorney Steve Opat at a news conference in Junction City today (Monday) to announce the unsealing of the indictment. Virok Webb, 34, and Marcus Roberson,29, both of Junction City, are charged with killing Crystal Fisher, who was found shot to death March 3rd of 2010, in Junction City. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A former bookkeeper for a Wichita-based chain of radio stations faces revised federal charges of stealing more than $2 million from his employer. William H. Nolan has been issued a summons to appear Wednesday in U.S. District Court to answer charges of mail fraud and wire fraud. The charges are outlined in a revised indictment that also seeks a $2 million forfeiture judgment. Nolan worked at LS Media Inc., which was previously known as Mid-America Ag Network, Broadcast Technical Associates and Steckline Communications. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A robbery suspect died after being shot by Wichita police. Two other suspects in a robbery at a Dollar General store were not injured and are in police custody. KWCH reports that police went to the store Sunday night after receiving a 911 call. Police say a robbery was in progress when officers arrived. When three people left the store, there was a confrontation and shots were fired. One suspect was hit in the chest several times and later died in the hospital. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A small church in west Wichita was heavily damaged in a fire but no injuries were reported. Wichita firefighters who went to the scene about 12:30 a.m. Monday encountered heavy smoke and flames. KFDI reports that firefighters had to fight the blaze from outside in part because a nearby power line was arcing. They eventually put out the fire. The cause is under investigation. Fire Investigations Capt. Stu Bevis says the fire did $130,000 in damage.
