KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — A Kansas man has been charged with two counts of murder after detectives in a newly formed cold case unit connected him to the deaths of two women nearly three decades ago. DNA evidence led to the arrest of 52-year-old Gary Dion Davis, Kansas City Police Chief Karl Oakman and Wyandotte County District Attorney Mark Dupree said Wednesday. Kansas State men’s basketball head coach Jerome Tang will serve as the Drum Honoree before Sunday’s game between the Chiefs and Bears. At every home game, the Chiefs organization invites an honored guest – Drum Honoree – to bang the team’s 8-foot-tall drum and lead the Arrowhead faithful in the Chop right before kickoff. The second-year head coach, whose team is set to tip off preparations for the 2023-24 season on Monday, led K-State to a memorable 2022-23 season that included 26 wins and a run to the Elite Eight.

Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Alan Williams has resigned, saying he needs to tend to his health and his family. Williams’ resignation comes just two games into his second season. In a statement, Williams thanked the Bears and their front office and ownership, and vowed to coach again. He missed last week’s loss at Tampa Bay for what the team said were personal reasons after working the opener against Green Bay. Coach Matt Eberflus called the defense in Williams’ absence and figures to do so again when the Bears visit Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
