Several police agencies assisted in the arrest of a St. Mary’s woman Thursday. According to Pottawatomie county Sheriff Greg Riat, the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office, St.Mary’s Police Department and the Wamego Police Department executed a search warrant at the residence of 1225 Pawnee Street, St.Mary’s. As a result of this warrant, Investigators located two suspected methamphetamine labs. Members of the above agencies, as well as the Riley County Police Department and the KBI are processing the suspected labs. Only one female has been taken into custody at this time.

(AP) Miami football coach Al Golden has confirmed a number of Hurricanes players have been declared ineligible after a university investigation found the players likely committed NCAA violations by associating with booster Nevin Shapiro. A person with knowledge of the process tells The Associated Press that eight players, including quarterback Jacory Harris, are ineligible. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because no one is authorized to discuss the ongoing investigations by the university and the NCAA. Three subdivisions may be receiving a facelift in the future. The Riley County commission passed a resolution to repave Lakewood, Driftwood and High Meadows subdivisions. Assistant county counselor Craig Cox explains the next step in the process. “This resolution will be mailed to all of the landowners in each subdivision,” Cox said. “There will be a cover letter explaining the protest period and what needs to be done to file an official protest.” The commission has set a public hearing for September 19th of this year to pass the sales tax resolution for the project. Sales tax numbers for Manhattan declined slightly for August compared to the same period in 2010. $768,817 were collected in August figures, which actually reflect two months prior. The adjusted rate is $728,920, and reflects a decline of $25,948 from the year before. The budget had called for 750-thousand dollars. Manhattan Finance Director Bernie Hayen attributes part of the decline to the partial month’s collection of sales taxes from Wal-Mart. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) A Fort Riley soldier who said he was shot and robbed while jogging in Kansas City has been charged with making a false report. The Jackson County, Mo. sheriff’s office says 25-year-old Pvt. Brian Anderson was charged Thursday after he admitted that the wound he suffered on Aug. 8 was self-inflicted. Anderson had told investigators that he was shot and robbed on the Little Blue Trace Trail in Kansas City. Anderson was taken back to Fort Riley Thursday where he is in custody of the U.S. Army.
Continued strong student enrollment and an improved financial situation at Kansas State University will permit a permanent mid-year 2.5 percent pay increase for faculty and unclassified staff. K-State men’s basketball coach Frank Martin announced a pair of additions to his roster on Thursday morning. Both players are freshmen walk-ons, Shawn Meyer of Blue Springs South in Lee’s Summitt, Missouri, and Brian Rohleder of Wichita Bishop Carroll. Meyer is a 6 foot-5 210 pound guard, who averaged 16 points, eight rebounds and two assists per game for Blue Springs South during his career. Sometime during the late afternoon tomorrow (Friday, August 26), eastbound and westbound K-18 traffic will be switched to a head to head configuration with one lane each direction from approximately one-half mile west of the Manhattan Airport Entrance to Scenic Drive, for construction of a box bridge, box culvert extension, and concrete pipe across the eastbound lanes on K-18 in Riley County. Traffic will be directed through the project work zone via signage. Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes, if possible. Enrollment numbers were a little late in coming from Manhattan/Ogden USD 383 the first day of school, with all the construction projects occupying much of Associate Superintendent Bob Seymour’s time. But Seymour had those numbers for KMAN this (Thursday) morning. The number is up 171 students from last year, with 5875 this year compared to 5704 last year in grades K-12.
