SUSANK, Kan. (AP) Two central Kansas towns are struggling with a lack of water after a lingering drought. The Barton County town of Susank says residents need to cut back on all watering and fix any leaking water sources. The Russell Water District No. 3 is based in Susank. District manager Ron Nuss says if residents don’t voluntarily conserve enough water, pasture and livestock watering might be limited. HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) Kansas health officials are investigating whether eight reported cases of listeria including two deaths are related to contaminated cantaloupe from Colorado. State officials said Thursday that at least eight people in Kansas have become ill from the bacteria since Aug. 26. Two people have died. Health department spokeswoman Barbara Hersh says none of the cases have been definitely linked to cantaloupe from Colorado. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback is endorsing fellow conservative Republican Rick Perry in his bid for the party’s nomination for president. Brownback, who has long been close friends with Perry, said Thursday he was backing the Texas governor’s candidacy. He will fly to Florida later in the day to attend a GOP debate as Perry’s guest. The two governors have had a close relationship for years. In August, Brownback attended a prayer rally hosted by Perry in Houston. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A Wichita nursing home is under investigation after a 67-year-old resident was discovered with open sores and maggots on his feet. The Wichita Eagle reports the man, a resident of Deseret HealthCare and Rehabilitation center, was taken to Via Christi Hospital on Tuesday night for treatment of chest pains. A police spokesman says doctors called police after finding open sores and maggots on resident’s feet. Lt. Doug Nolte says the man told police he was being mistreated at the home. The Manhattan-Ogden School Board had a wide array of topics to go over during their Wednesday night meeting. They had everything from awards, to bond discussion, to construction reports, to redistricting. The night started early with a work session to discuss the sale of construction bonds. The board reviewed the bonds and discussed payment issues. The board later in the night passed unanimously the sale of the remaining construction bonds. New enrollment numbers for the fall semester at Manhattan Christian College are out. This year the enrollment totaled around 380 students. Manhattan Christian College president Kevin Ingram says he pleased with that figure as it is up from last year’s 378, and continues the trend of gaining students for the last 3 years. The break down for the enrollment numbers fall into three different programs. 320 students fall under the traditional program on the main MCC campus. Two victims have been identified in the aggravated burglary case that involves 56-year old George Morgan of Manhattan. Riley County police have learned the two victims are 21-year old Emily Kenney of 515 Pierre and 81-year old Norma Lewis of 1020 Pierre. Kenney reported that she did not see anyone in her home but had noticed that windows had been broken and that a knife was stolen from her kitchen. Shortly after Kenney reported the incident, Lewis entered her home to find Morgan inside. Lewis struck Morgan and told him to leave. Police arrested Morgan shortly after the altercation. RCPD…

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) Starting wide receiver Trey Franks was suspended indefinitely by No. 1 Oklahoma on Tuesday for an unspecified violation of team rules. This is the second time this season Pelger has been recognized by College Volleyball Update as she was listed among the website’s Top Performers last week.
