This coming Sunday, for the first time in 15 years, young women in the Manhattan area will have the opportunity to compete for the titles of Miss Manhattan and Miss K-State Wildcat, official preliminaries to the Miss America Pageant. To be eligible, a women must be between the ages of 17-24, single and never married, and live within 100 miles of Manhattan. K-State students do quality. The American Red Cross has made a new partnership for their upcoming blood drive. Kristi Ingalls, Senior Donor Recruitment Representative, tells KMAN News the Kansas Pork Association has agreed to partner with them for the January 24-25 blood drive at CiCo Park. “They’re going to have a farmer there to serve the pork and to talk about the importance of pork for nutrients,” Ingalls said. “Also, they’ll be giving away coupons and recipes for pork. As well, when you donate, they’ll be giving everyone who comes in to donate a pig (squeeze ball) to use when you give blood and…
The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Manhattan is honored to host Rev. Peter Bauer as he gives three lectures on Saturday January 21st. The presentations he will be giving are: “Spiritual Issue and Combat Stress”, “Current and Future Treatment Interventions for PTSD”, and “Current Interventions for TBI: Symptoms of Depression and Anger”. Bauer will also be heading the 10:45 service on Sunday with his sermon entitled, “What Comes After the Beer, Pizza, and Sex”. MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) Rodney McGruder scored a career high 33 points, including a transition dunk in the closing seconds, and #25 Kansas State beat Texas 84-80 on Wednesday night despite lousy foul shooting down the stretch. McGruder also added eight rebounds for the Wildcats (13-4, 2-3 Big 12) while playing superb defense on the Longhorns’ J’Covan Brown, who came into the game leading the Big 12 in scoring. COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) Clemson has landed Oklahoma’s Brent Venables to take over the Tigers defense. Tigers coach Dabo Swinney texted The Associated Press with the news Wednesday night, “BV to Clemson.” The former K-State defensive coordinator will take over for Kevin Steele, who left Clemson last week with Swinney saying the two had philosophical differences. Venables visited Clemson last weekend. There were no details when Venables would arrive on campus to start working. The Manhattan – Ogden school board had a lot to cover during their regular business meeting Wednesday night. The board started early with construction as a bid was presented to the board concerning asbestos abatement. There were also reports given on how the projects are progressing. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Republican Gov. Sam Brownback is floating a proposal to cap the annual growth in state spending at 2 percent, an idea that has broad appeal among his fellow Kansas conservatives. But Brownback said Tuesday that he’ll leave the details of how best to implement the cap to the GOP-controlled Legislature.
