A native Manhattan woman may not have won on Wheel of Fortune Thursday night, but she had a surprise of a different nature. Maryanne Rigor’s military husband surprised her at the end of the episode. Major Rigor came back from Afghanistan , with his unit’s homecoming ceremony held the same day his wife filmed her episode. Major Rigor was hidden in a back room until the very end of the program–with the two embracing as the show ended. Maryanne won 14-thousand dollars and a trip to Las Vegas, but was not the final winner in the Thursday night program.

A 14 year old from Manhattan has been arrested on multiple battery charges, and criminal damage to property. At around 6:00 pm on Thursday night Riley county police were called to the 1100 block of Crossgate Terrace on a report of battery and criminal damage to property. According to police reports upon arrival at the scene the police officers made contact with the youth, Jonathan Dickson, and at that point Officer Joshua Opat was allegedly assaulted by the suspect. A Manhattan man KMAN News told you about earlier this week has been bound over for trial on a charge of aggravated indecent liberties with a child. Rodney Richardson, 55, is set for arraignment in Riley county district court February 21st. Richardson’s preliminary hearing was held Wednesday in a case involving an 11 year old girl in August of last year. The judge bound Richardson over for trial Friday morning.
The Manhattan area chamber of commerce went on the record today (Friday), saying it is disappointed by the outcome of the Kansas Senate action on a map that would remove Manhattan and Riley County from the 2nd Congressional District and place it in the Big 1st District. Chamber president Lyle Butler says this stance is not a new one for the local chamber. “Ten years ago, when we did the last census,” Butler told KMAN. “We lost a congressional seat. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that missing person, Francis Kramer of Frankfort. was found deceased in Brown County Friday morning. Next of kin have been notified. Brown county Sheriff John Merchant tells KMAN Kramer’s body was found in his vehicle stuck on a mud road in the southwest corner of the county. Kramer, 77, disappeared last Friday. He was reportedly on his way to the Sac and Fox or Golden Eagle casino.

The first girl to win a Kansas Relays title in Rock Creek history also is the first Mustang girl to become a Division I athlete. Lizz Herrs signed her national letter-of-intent with the University of Oklahoma on Wednesday to throw the javelin. Herrs won the Kansas Relays last season with a toss of nearly 143 feet, and also took the 3A state title with a throw of over 147 feet. Herrs signed with the Sooners in a ceremony at Rock Creek, with her family and coaches present.
