MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Kansas State Athletics) – In its first Big 12 road victory, K-State was able to hold off West Virginia in three sets, 25-22, 28-26, 25-18, at WVU Coliseum on Wednesday. K-State (11-6, 2-2) was led by seniors Elena Baka and Sydney Bolding with eight kills each. Baka kept the tempo at a .412 hitting efficiency while Bolding swung at .235 for the night. Enrollment is up at Manhattan-Ogden Schools, nearing pre-pandemic levels. USD 383 Assistant Superintendent Eric Reid delivered the annual enrollment report to the school board Wednesday, noting the district saw a significant increase in enrollment numbers compared to last year. Some of the larger increases were seen in the secondary schools, in particular at Manhattan High School, which was up almost 100 students from the previous year. It’s been a good fundraising week for Kansas State University. On the heels of $4 and $5 million pledges from the Kansas Soybean Commission and Kansas Farm Bureau respectively to the College of Agriculture, K-State Salina announced Wednesday its receiving a 10 million dollar gift from California-based General Atomics Aeronautical Systems. The award will support an innovation ramp, encompassing the southernmost portion of the Salina campus, transforming its footprint and revitalizing land that was home to the former Schilling Air Force Base. No injuries were reported after a barn caught fire this morning near Keats. Riley County Fire District No. 1 was dispatched shortly before 6 a.m. to a rural property near West 60th Street after a bypasser noticed the fire and called it in. Arriving firefighters found the detached barn fully engulfed, but haven’t yet determined a cause. Arson is not suspected. No large livestock were inside the barn, however some chickens, ducks and geese perished in the blaze. The barn was a total loss, with damage estimated at $75,000.
