(K-State Athletics) – Kansas State held a block party at Allen Arena on Friday night to open the Lippy Invitational as the Wildcats tallied a season-high 14 stops to defeat UT Martin in straight sets (25-14, 25-12, 25-13). The Wildcats (5-1) totaled a season-best 14 blocks, including six solo stops, to help the defense hold the Skyhawks to an efficiency of -.031 in the first meeting between the two programs. A dedication presentation was held on Ahearn Memorial Field for the Tracz Family Band Hall Friday afternoon. Director of Bands, Dr. Frank Tracz provided insight into the new perks of having a band hall near where the K-State Marching Band rehearses. Friday’s presentation included a short performance by the K-State Marching Band, some kind words from Head Drum Major Audrey Farrell, and a conclusion speech by Dr. Tracz, who says he is grateful the project could become a reality. Manhattan City Manager Ron Fehr provided updates to the Riley County Commission about a number of improvements to the city. Road construction is continuing. Fremont from 11th to 12th street is complete and open. The next phase from 12th to Manhattan St will not happen until next year, due to bad soil discovery while widening a water pipe. Fehr says there will also be a new roundabout on K-State’s Campus. Fehr also says the Manhattan City Commission approved a permit for an Oktoberfest in the alley of Manhattan Brewing Company. Officers filed a report for theft in the 500 block of McCall Rd. in Manhattan on Thursday around 3:00 p.m. An employee of Menards reported that on Sept. 2, an unknown suspect entered the business and stole a Generac generator and a Champion generator. It wasn’t pretty, but Manhattan High’s football team improved to 2-0 Thursday night in Topeka, blasting Topeka High 55-19. The Indians ran for over 315 yards as a team while holding the Trojans to 22 yards rushing. After having gone unbeaten last season, Manhattan has now won its last 15 games, setting a new mark for top winning streak in school history. The Tribe will host Hays next Friday night.
A Manhattan beverage company was the recent victim of fraud recently. The Riley County Police Department filed a report for theft by deception Wednesday after local business Walker’s Tea reported an unknown supsect fraudulently ordered about $4,150 worth of prouduct and had it shipped to an out-of-state address. Riley County Police are investigating after a 41-year-old man reported this week his car was broken into and multiple items were stolen, including a firearm. Officers filed a report for burglary to motor vehicles in the 2100 block of Praire Lea Place Wednesday afternoon. The victim reported to police that an unknown suspect stole a pistol, a knife and a machete from his vehicle, valued at $675. A 76-year-old woman also reported her vehicle was broken into, but nothing was stolen. Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers.
