A medical emergency is the apparent cause of a Wednesday auto collision near the intersection of Casement Road and Hayes Drive. Police officials say the responded to the scene around 4 p.m., where a GMC Terrain driven by David O’Quinn had hopped a curb while making a left turn from Casement onto Hayes. The GMC then drove through roadside grass before striking a Nissan Altima driven by Alexis Winter while waiting to turn. A teenage girl was arrested Wednesday in connection with a report for criminal damage to property that occurred at the Riley County Office Building. Riley County Police officials say a 14-year-old girl is accused of throwing rocks at the offices and, in the process, broke out windows on the building. Police filed the report around 10 p.m. Wednesday, with an estimated loss associated with the damage coming in at about 1 thousand dollars. An unidentified person died Wednesday evening after a residential fire in Junction City. JC Fire Chief Jason Lankas released a statement Thursday, saying crews responded to the scene just before 7:30 p.m. The unidentified person is said to have been suicidal, with dispatchers informing emergency responders that they had indicated they would shoot anyone that enters the building as well as themself. Upon arrival, smoke was coming from the structures 1st and 2nd floor eves, with fire showing from a side window.
