MANHATTAN, Kansas (Kansas State Athletics) – K-State women’s basketball standout Ayoka Lee has been nominated for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year. Lee was selected by the Big 12 Senior Women’s Administrators for consideration for the honor and is among 53 nominees from conference offices at the Division I level. The Woman of the Year Selection Committee, made up of representatives from the NCAA membership, will choose 10 nominees from each division to make up the national Top 30 honorees. (Kansas State Athletics) – Rising sophomores Emil Uhlin and Carl af Forselles finished second and third, respectively, in the decathlon at the Swedish National Championships held July 23-24 in Vasteras, Sweden. The decathlon consists of 10 events over two days, including the 100 meters, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400 meters on day one and the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500 meters on day two. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Angels’ Shohei Ohtani fanned on three pitches during his first at-bat against the Royals on Tuesday night. His next at-bat set the tone for the rest of the game. MANHATTAN, Kansas (Kansas State Athletics) – A pair of Wildcats saw their names on preseason watch lists on Tuesday, as Kansas State defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah was one of 85 players named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch list, while offensive lineman Cooper Beebe was named one of 89 players on the Outland Trophy watch list, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) announced. A neuroscience research center operating out of Kansas State has received millions in grant funds, the second phase of the program which began in 2017. The National Institutes of Health provided over 11 million dollars to the K-State led Cognitive and Neurobiological Approaches to Plasticity Center. The funding will support work over the next 5 years, with researchers exploring how the human brain changes over time. Riley County Police on Friday arrested a man in connection to a June 5th shooting. 25-year-old Tyrell Harper was taken into police custody just before 3 p.m. July 22nd. Harper is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon as well as aggravated battery. Police accuse Harper of punching a 21-year-old woman in the face before shooting her in the leg in the 900 block of Bluemont Avenue in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 5th.
