A new organization in Manhattan will soon be celebrating their one-year anniversary. True Colors Flint Hills is a queer and trans youth center in town. Executive Director Katie Curtis-Baker says they provide middle school and high school youth with various resources. True Colors will host an Open House later this month to celebrate their success. During their Tuesday meeting, Manhattan City Commissioners voted to return a rezoning request for 407 Pottawatomie Avenue back to the Manhattan Urban Area Planning Board for further consideration. The request from Midwest Concrete Materials failed to earn approval from the Manhattan Urban Area Planning Board in a three to three vote during their May 25th meeting. MCM Owner Chris Eichman told commissioners the company hopes to rezone the approximately 1.22 acre tract of land for business commercial use and construct a training center. Seth Child Rd. and the intersection of Anderson Ave. in Manhattan on June 6, 2023, around 9:15 a.m. After arriving on scene, officers found a 2009 Lexus GX driven by Kim Nguyen, 47, of Manhattan was driving north on the offramp when it was clipped by a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Vernon Vandahl, 74, of Manhattan as it drove the wrong way up the offramp. According to a Monday release, a total of seven contestants have advanced to this year’s finals. Vandals have struck again out at Anneberg Park. The Riley County Police Department says officers filed a criminal damage to property report Monday after the City of Manhattan reported damage to the soccer building complex, including a door, as well as locks and knobs on three doors to the building. Damage was estimated at just under $1,200. It’s the third report of vandalism at Anneberg Park since mid-April. Anyone with information is asked to call RCPD or Crime Stoppers.
