The Riley County Board of Commissioners approved a request Monday to administer two surveys to collect staff and public feedback on a proposed schedule of four, ten-hour days per workweek for all departments. Riley County Clerk Rich Vargo presented the survey request to commissioners and emphasized that the benefits of this change extend beyond an additional day off for employees. He said this new schedule would offer the same, if not better, level of services at no extra cost to taxpayers. A bench warrant has been issued for a Fort Riley soldier accused in a 2018 rape. Luis Emanuel Cortijo-Abreu was initially charged in July 2019 with the rape of a mentally deficient victim. In court Monday, it was discussed by attorney Brenda Jordan that she has not had contact with Abreu for an extended period of time, noting that online court records show nothing has happened with his case since a March 2020 arraignment hearing. A Manhattan man charged with attempted murder was in Riley County District Court Monday for an arraignment on separate charges of violating the offender registration act and perjury. Jarman Morgan, 45, entered not guilty pleas to all seven charges against him, including four for failing to register and three for perjury. The offenses are alleged from August 2020 to December 2021. OLATHE, Kan. (AP) — Suburban Kansas City police shot and killed a man they say came at two officers with a knife after a traffic stop. Police in Olathe, Kansas, pulled over a car just before 6 p.m. Saturday, Sgt. Joel Yeldell said in a news release. During the stop, a separate vehicle pulled up.
