The Greater Manhattan Community Foundation will accept donations for its eighth annual GROW Green Match Day from midnight to 11:59 p.m. Wednesday online or through mailed-in checks. The fundraiser helps raise money for 65 local organizations, ranging from arts-based to healthcare-based, to support their immediate and long-term needs. Kansas State senior women’s golfer Sophie Bert carded a final-round total of 5-under par 66 on Thursday, rising 13 spots up the leaderboard to capture the Wildcats’ first-ever individual conference championship title at the 2025 Big 12 Championship held at the par-71, 6,249-yard Houston Oaks Golf Club. As a team, K-State began the day in 11th place before climbing six spots to finish in fifth place at 25-over par 877. Wamego softball extended its win streak to five games with a pair of mercy rule wins over Concordia on Tuesday. The Red Raiders (5-1) are third in 4A East, only trailing 8-1 Baldwin and 13-0 Eudora. Against Concordia, Wamego won 11-0 and 19-1. In the opener, Tennessee commit Peyton Hardenburger tossed the 15th no-hitter of her career. She struck out 16 batters while allowing just one walk. Rock Creek baseball, coming off a 4A state championship last spring, is currently positioned seventh in 4A East standings. The Mustangs (9-4) picked up a split in a pair of low-scoring affairs over the weekend against Concordia. Then, on Tuesday, Rock Creek’s offense came alive with 10-0 and 18-1 wins for a sweep of Chapman. In the Mustangs’ lone win over Concordia, sophomore Brock Lubbers tossed a complete game, allowing just five hits and three runs. He fanned nine batters while giving up just one free pass. Rebecca Hackemann Bahlmann, formerly a professor of photography in the College of Arts and Sciences, was dismissed from her role as a tenured professor in October. City officials have delayed a decision on proposed parking restrictions surrounding the Lincoln Education Center. At Tuesday’s Manhattan City Commission meeting, neighboring residents voiced concerns about restrictions, proposed by USD 383, that would eliminate street parking along 9th and 10th Street, between Poyntz Avenue and Pierre Street. A Manhattan man was arrested early Tuesday morning after allegedly entering a woman’s home without permission and being found in possession of illegal substances. According to the Riley County Police Department, officers responded to a residence in the 2500 block of Farm Bureau Road at approximately 2:35 a.m. on April 16. A 22-year-old woman reported that a 22-year-old man, identified as Oscar Burgos-Floriana, entered her home uninvited. Police say Burgos-Floriana was found in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
