The RCPD responded to a series of incidents across Manhattan on Saturday, July 26, including multiple thefts, domestic disturbances, and two arrests. Officers investigated several larceny cases throughout the day, including a reported theft at Dara’s Fast Lane on Claflin Road, another at Casey’s General Store on Fort Riley Boulevard, and a past vehicle-related theft at the Fairfield Inn on Colorado Street. A separate theft was also reported at the Walmart on Bluemont Avenue. Three people were injured in two related crashes late Friday night on K-18 eastbound, about half a mile east of the K-114 junction. The first incident occurred around 11:35 p.m. when 18-year-old Trinity Sproul of Wamego lost control of her 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer and struck a parked 2007 Pontiac G6 on the shoulder. The Pontiac then hit two pedestrians who were standing in front of the vehicle. The pedestrians—29-year-old Koltyn Moore of Manhattan and 40-year-old Rod Marti of Milwaukee, Wisconsin—were both transported to Ascension Via Christi in Manhattan with suspected serious injuries. Multiple arrests and incidents were reported across Manhattan on July 25, according to Riley County Police Department records. Among the more serious incidents, officers responded to a reported robbery just after 11 p.m. in the 3600 block of Everett Drive and to a burglary early the next morning at Manhattan Christian College on Anderson Avenue. Several battery cases were also reported Friday night, including one in the 300 block of South 3rd Street and another on Moro Street. By Rose Gruenbacher A Manhattan man was sentenced Tuesday in Riley County District Court to serve over 10 years with the Kansas Department of Corrections. Jonathan Maldonado, 27, in November pleaded guilty to charges of kidnapping, aggravated residential burglary, aggravated assault, interference with law enforcement and domestic battery. Judge Grant Bannister sentenced him to 10 years two months with the KDOC for the first four counts, and six months in jail for domestic battery. By Rose Gruenbacher A Manhattan man on Monday pleaded guilty to charges including burglary and assault, after reaching a plea deal with prosecutors. Michael Calvert, 33, appeared for arraignment with judge Kendra Lewison and entered a guilty plea to counts of attempted aggravated robbery, residential burglary, aggravated assault and criminal threat. Two drivers were transported to the hospital Thursday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash on I-70 eastbound just south of the K-177 junction. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol a 2024 Tesla, driven by 73-year-old Terry Roehr of Colorado Springs, was attempting to enter I-70 from the eastbound on-ramp at K-177 when the vehicle hydroplaned due to wet conditions. The Tesla collided with a pickup truck as it was spinning on the highway. The pickup was driven by 16-year-old Sawyer Ibarra of Alma, Kansas.
