Nearly 8,000 Evergy customers in Manhattan lost power around 8:15 Sunday morning. About ten minutes later, the Manhattan Fire Department responded to a reported fire at an Evergy substation. Deputy Chief Ryan Almes confirms they responded to the substation, located at Walters Drive and Tuttle Creek Boulevard, “but didn’t find anything.” Evergy reported 15 outages in the area, affecting 7,952 customers at about 8:45 a.m. An hour later, nearly half were restored, leaving less than 3,300 customers without power. Three Manhattan High wrestlers captured 6A State Titles Saturday, while the Indians won the 6A Boys’ team crown after having nine wrestlers medal. Ezekiel Witt (Boys’ 113) and Sage Rosario (Girls’ 155) capped unbeaten seasons with wins Saturday afternoon. Witt pinned Gabe Sherrell of Olathe Northwest to finish a 43-0 season, needing just 2:36 of his championship match for the fall. Local residents came out in big numbers on Saturday to support the annual book sale put on by the Manhattan Public Library. It was the highest turnout the library has had in the last five years according to employees and volunteers who organized the sale. An Ogden male was arrested on child sex crimes on Friday. Police arrested a 16-year-old male at approximately 6:45 pm in the 400 block of SE Eighth Avenue in Ogden on a criminal warrant. The male was charged with four counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, two counts each of indecent solicitation with a child, aggravated criminal sodomy of a child and lewd or lascivious (las-civ-i-ous) behavior and one count of a criminal threat. Kansas State University contributed $2.3 billion in economic impact to the state, according to the university’s latest Economic and Community Impact report.
