Riley County Police arrested a 30-year-old Manhattan man over the weekend for allegedly violating terms of the Offender Registration Act. Raynell Bracey was apprehended Friday evening near the intersection of Anderson Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr Drive on the probable cause offense. According to the Kansas Department of Corrections, Bracey has past convictions of aggravated battery and criminal threat out of Geary County and fleeing and eluding law enforcement out of Dickinson County. Bracey was released from jail after posting a $15,000 bond.

Officers filed a report for criminal damage to property in the 100 block of Vattier Street in Manhattan on October 13, 2023, around 11:35 PM. The Manhattan Fire Department says smoke alarms prevented a cooking fire from becoming more serious Thursday evening. Officials say crews arrived to smoke in the third floor of the west Manhattan apartment building. When firefighters made entry into the apartment, they found a pan of burnt food on the stovetop with the burner still turned on. The occupant had left the food unattended. Smoke alarms alerted other residents to the burning food. The fire department says the near miss illustrates the importance of being vigilant while cooking and having working smoke alarms.
