Manhattan Parks and Recreation is looking forward to summertime as workers begin preparing the city’s pools and splash parks before opening back up this month. Parks and Rec Aquatics Recreation Specialist Sydni Baker says this year, all three pools and both splash parks will be up and running. Baker encourages those interested in registering children for swim lessons to do so now, with spots filling up fast as pool season approaches. The Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art is hosting a highly unique performance Friday night on the K-State campus. Paul Rucker is a multimedia visual artist, composer, and musician, with a large portion of his work focusing on social justice issues in the United States. Rucker and five local musicians will present an improvisational and interactive musical performance titled “Hold: A Feeling or a Story”. Rucker, a self-taught cellist, said he has enjoyed performing a variety of music genres, but his true love is musical improv. Rucker said this performance will be unique even to him. The Riley County Police Department is currently investigating two separate incidents of vandalism at Frank Anneberg Park and is seeking further information from the public. According to RCPD Public Information Officer Aaron Wintermote, officers were called out to the park on April 24th after Manhattan Parks and Recreation staff discovered the vandalism. A shed, baseball score sign and several bulk bags of sand were damaged (pictured below), resulting in approximately $3000 worth of damage. KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — One or more shooters opened fire on a child playing in the front yard of a Kansas home, killing him, authorities said. The attack Wednesday evening in Kansas City, Kansas, when it was still daylight, doesn’t appear to have been a “random act,” police Maj. Violeta Magee told reporters at the scene.
