Riley County commissioners on Monday approved the fiscal 2023 adult and juvenile services plan for community corrections. Corrections Director Shelly Williams says they received notice of an amendment to the governor’s budget to include additional funding for corrections grants for 841 thousand dollars. It will go toward a five percent pay increase. The House and Senate budget committees agreed to add the funding and will vote on the final version of the budget bills next week. Williams requested commissioners approve the budget that does not include a cost of living adjustment or merit. Williams told commissioners they hope to hear…

SHARON SPRINGS, Kan. — National Weather Service officials were in western Kansas Saturday to assess damage from a strong storm and a possible tornado that damaged buildings in Sharon Springs and elsewhere. Authorities say the late Friday storm rolled through numerous Kansas cities, including Grainfield, Mingo and Winona. Large hail was reported in Leoti, Colby, Holcomb, Ulysses, Hugoton and Garden City. There were no immediate reports of injuries. TOPEKA, Kan. — Kansas lawmakers have ended a spring break with more room to cut taxes and boost state spending than they had even a few weeks ago but not knowing whether they’ll be debating political redistricting again. The Republican-controlled Legislature was set to reconvene Monday to wrap up its business for the year. State court cases involving the new political boundaries drawn by GOP lawmakers create some uncertainty over how long they’ll be in session. Little Apple Pride was in full swing this weekend, as members of the community gathered in Manhattan City Park Saturday afternoon. The morning kicked off with a parade that made its way through Aggieville. Construction will begin Monday on North Manhattan Avenue in Aggieville, which will close a portion of the street from Fremont to Moro through this fall. McCown Gordon and the City of Manhattan will begin work Monday on the next Aggieville Vision phase. The full project will encompass North Manhattan Avenue from Fremont to Bluemont Avenue and will include complete reconstruction of the street, sidewalks, water lines, and storm sewer.
